Apparently I blinked. And suddenly, my sixth child will be starting Junior Kindergarten in September. Six kids in elementary school. There was a time I never thought I’d see the day, and now I feel like I don’t want to see the day. My other five children attended kindergarten for half days every day. It suited us perfectly. We established a nice daily routine. On the days I worked, Nanny Hazel was there for them, so I never had daycare issues or logistics to juggle. Next year, our school is providing full day kindergarten – every single day. I’m just … Continue reading
Earlier this week, a mom in the autism community reached out to me for some ideas or suggestions for dealing with a difficult neighbor. Her son, who is quite severely affected by autism, has recently developed a verbal tic/stim. Often verbal tics/stims present as loud, unusual, and random sounds. Apparently this neighbor finds the verbal tic annoying to listen to when the little guy is playing in his backyard or swimming in the pool with his family. So annoying, in fact, that he regularly calls the police to report the child. When the police arrived the other night, they actually … Continue reading

I am fortunate to be a part of the PTPA Blogaholics as well as test out great items for kids and families. I was super excited to have the chance to test out the Lollacup a new spin on the sippy cup. It couldn’t have come at a better time. When we had Shane’s 1 year doctor appointment we were told to ditch the bottle and introduce a sippy cup. My little baby was growing up. When we got a regular sippy cup he struggled with it a bit and he would just end up lying down to drink from … Continue reading
I’m single mom of 7 year old boy/girl twins. My son has Autism. My daughter has Anxiety Disorder. I’m also very happy to still have a relationship with my 18 year old stepdaughter, despite being divorced from her father. She has Asperger’s and Mysophonia. BUT, my kids are so much more than their respective diagnoses. My son has the biggest smile that just makes everyone’s hearts melt when he looks and smiles at you. He loves the iPad, bubbles, and movie and television logos. Everyone comments about how much my daughter looks like me, and then she’s quick to correct … Continue reading
You know how everyone is the perfect parent—before they have kids? They always know EXACTLY how they would parent saying, “When I have kids, I’ll NEVER cut the crusts off their sandwiches,” and, “My kids will know how to read before starting kindergarten.” Well, I’ve become that mom —except with my puppy. Our latest little blessing arrives in four weeks, and of these facts I am sure: He will be perfectly crate trained. I’m still learning exactly what that means, but I’m convinced it will hold true for my dog. My kids will do as they promised. They said they … Continue reading

I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to listen to Oprah speak in Hamilton courtesy of CAA South Central Ontario.
I am not that person who wants to be everywhere and attend every social event. In fact, I am the opposite of that person. As I live on a plane most weeks, I am happy to stay home with my family when I do have some down time. But the chance to hear Oprah live? Couldn’t pass that one up. In fact, I had the opportunity to meet with her producers in her offices in LA last summer and I have to say, just being there was enough to inspire me! Continue reading
