The Endorsement Parents Look For

My mom and I are close. Really close. For most of my life she raised me as a single mom (until my fantastic step-father came along) and devoted her life to raising me. As an only child it was really just her and I; all the time. Sure I had lots of friends and a father I saw sometimes but I always felt it was mom and I against the world. We faced a lot of hardships, celebrated success and taught each other so many things. Now that I am an adult and a mom myself I appreciate her sacrifices … Continue reading

I was recently at a moms group meeting and the topic of “how to get Dad involved with baby” came up, I found it very interesting as I have never really had the issue where my husband was not involved with the kids. Really he didn’t have a choice! Right from when they were first born I made sure that they got “Daddy Time” . Here are my top 3 tips for How to Get Dad Involved with Baby: Bottle Up! – Now I am 110% pro-breastfeeding mother. Both of my boys have been exclusively breastfeed. However, exclusively breastfeeding does … Continue reading

When I Grow Up ….

It’s almost a childhood requirement – to think of what career we want to be even from the time we can understand the concept of jobs. When I was a kid, the jobs I most wanted to be when I grew up, was a teacher, a mom, a nurse, a writer. …. Now, asking my kids what they want to be: Big, age 8: Own his own video game store. I suspect this is because he’s a game junkie and wants to be on the cutting edge of the gaming world. Middle, age 6: Worker man (which means construction – probably … Continue reading

The hardest part about being a mom is the whole guilt factor. Am I making the right choices for my child? Am I being stern enough/lenient enough/giving enough/careful enough? Am I giving them freedom or holding them back? Am I letting them develop their own personalities, or am I squashing them? Am I pushing them too hard or letting them live for themselves? Am I teaching them everything they need to know? I’ve got news for you. No matter how hard we try to be perfect, how hard we work to get everything right, how we struggle for everything….. we … Continue reading

I think I almost got something done today. The problem is, unless I write down a list of what I want to accomplish, I forget. With 3 small minds and needs to keep me busy, it really is amazing how it’s possible to get anything finished. Here’s some examples. Can you relate? 1. Getting Ready to Go Out: I’ve packed the backpack with whatever we need for said adventure. The only thing I have to do now is get the kids out the door. Call them all to the door. Realize I’d forgotten to pack something, go hunt for it, … Continue reading

It feels like every day someone turned the power onto full and forgot to turn it back to “normal.” You accidentally find yourself in the girl’s clothing section at the store and start hyperventilating because everything is so foreign. You have to weave your way through a maze of Hot Wheels and small plastic building blocks. You can carry a conversation about the merits of a currently popular video game with another boy mom. Your laundry consists of pant pockets full of stones, dirt, bugs, frogs …. You don’t even bat an eyelash when your son jumps from the top … Continue reading

Summer has just flown right by in the blink of an eye so it seems. Most of us don’t want to hear it and some of us can’t wait but in a few short weeks we will be sending our children off to school. Our oldest daughter is going into grade three, she knows that back to school means back to routine. Getting up in the morning, getting ready and catching the bus. This year is going to be totally new for our youngest son though, he is heading for his very first year of school, Junior Kindergarten! This is … Continue reading
