The Endorsement Parents Look For

Image source here via Google Images With today being Earth Day, I’m excited (and curious) to find out what everyone’s doing with their kids in celebration of this special day.  To be honest, I love that this day is recognized, but I do believe Earth Day should be every day.  As parents, it’s our job to teach our kids about treading a little lighter on the earth and making decisions that will be gentler on our planet. Little One is really excited that today is Earth Day!  At four years of age, she is looking forward to all the fun activities … Continue reading

Infant Ear Piercing. This a touchy subject. In my opinion, as a mom, only you know what is best for your children. When it comes down to infant ear-piercing, you can expect mixed opinions. This topic comes up because both of my girls have pierced ears. When my little one had  just hit the two-month mark, we were happy to take her to get her ears pierced. Usually, the minimum age of 2 months is when most institutions will pierce baby’s ears for you. With Gabs, my eldest, I pierced her ears at 6 weeks old and the response to … Continue reading

I often forget that my daughter is just four years old. She is the youngest to much older siblings and often is way ahead of other kids her age. If I was to describe her to someone I would say things like Feisty, brave, fearless and kind. I would say she is tough and girly , smart and loving. She is the kind of kid that can melt your heart and make you laugh within seconds of each other. It is not unusual to see her giving her brothers trouble for something or carrying a box or toy that is … Continue reading

For many parents, finding ways to help their children who suffer from eczema can be a challenge. Eczema can vary from persistent skin conditions of dryness and recurring rashes to the more severe blistering, cracking, crusting, or flaking. Fellow Blogaholic, Carol Gomez (of the blog Carol Au Courant) wrote about her daughter’s recent eczema flare ups here. It’s not pleasant –  no matter what your age is, but for some reason it always seems worse when it’s a young child experiencing pain and discomfort like this. I was surprised at the number of infants and young children that are affected … Continue reading

Let’s face it: work is work, whether it’s balancing the books at a national corporation or balancing your family’s budget. I struggle every day with this fairy tale called work-life balance, which I think is safe to simply call “balance.” Does it exist? Continue reading

Are kids learning about sex from porn? This question came up on a Raising America segment I was on. I certainly hope they are not, but parents spend a fair amount of time dodging situations and conversations that might cause their kids to ask questions about – gasp – sex. For unknown reasons, my kids can ask me any question and I never feel awkward or embarrassed. I also have this knack of being completely honest while framing the answer in age-appropriate terms. I don’t get thrown off my game. It’s quite a handy skill when you have six inquisitive children. I always thought it would be better … Continue reading

I have wrote before about the things my four year old says and how she often catches us off guard. Well I just can not keep this one to myself. I realize the title may have you confused. I know how to spell Prince Once you read the story below it will all make sense. Our daughter is very much so a princess. She is convinced she is a princess. Her dad and her brothers tell her she is daily. We went to Disney world and everyone there called her Princess. We go out shopping people call her princess. So … Continue reading

It didn’t take long to miss the little things after leaving on my recent journey to the land known as America. There was no hug goodbye, no “we’ll miss you Daddy”, really, there was nothing but silence as I slipped out the door at 5am on a cold Thursday morning. As I hit the road that morning, I had a nervous excitement about where I was headed and the experiences I would have. Still, there were constant reminders of what I was leaving behind. A miniature hockey bag on the floor made me think about how great my son’s first … Continue reading
