Today I found myself asking my almost-two-year-old for five minutes of peace. (Yeah, I know, he’s not even two… but he can understand me!) These days it seems I can’t even go to the bathroom by myself. At least one of my kids is calling my name or climbing up the stairs to scout out my location, after I’ve just informed them where I’d be and for how long. At times like this, I second-guess my parenting skills… maybe I expect too much of them at their ages; maybe I cater to them, making them needy; maybe I just don’t … Continue reading
If I had to describe myself, I’d say I’m a Type-B personality (definitely not Type-A – that’s best left to hubby!). But, when it comes to my children’s safety, I definitely take on some Type-A characteristics. Ever since Baby #1, I’ve been somewhat obsessed with car safety. All I could think of was that this little, tiny body was going to be cocooned in a car seat that could potentially save her life one day. That’s a big deal. So, I started doing some research on car seats and realized that the process of choosing, installing and using a car … Continue reading
Although March Madness is a sports reference, to me it’s the crazy time leading up to March Break. It’s that time when parents everywhere are scrambling around, trying to figure out just what the heck their kids are going to do for an entire week! March Break is something I have a love-hate relationship with. I love that my kids get to be home and we get to spend some great family time together. But on the flip side, it’s tough to keep them occupied sufficiently for 5 days. It seems every museum, zoo, play center and just about every … Continue reading
Most days I feel like a hamster on its wheel, running around in circles, crossing daily tasks from my to-do list and wondering when the hell I’m going to get off. Almost every day I struggle with balance and doubt the sanity of my decisions… Is working from home really a good idea? Do I spend enough quality time with my kids? Do I play with them enough? When I am with them, am I preoccupied with work? Should I forgo the extra income and mental stimulation from working and simply enjoy being home with them? Why, for the life … Continue reading
I love clothes. I have ever since I was little. In fact, as a kid, my favourite toy was a set of Fashion Plates. So when I grew up and had a little girl, I practically squealed with joy at the thought of the cute clothes I’d dress her in. Fast-forward almost 5 years, and I can tell you one thing – my daughter chooses what she wants to wear, no matter how many suggestions I give her. And, to be honest, I prefer it that way… although, I’ll admit, some days I completely cringe at her pairings. To me, … Continue reading
I’ll admit I’m a clutterbug… not a hoarder or anything, but I like having my stuff around me. Being married to a Type A, organized, ‘spare’ kinda guy has made me more cognizant of this over the years, but I still have my little bastions of chaos – like my nightstand and at least one drawer in my wardrobe. This, however, doesn’t go over well with hubby. If he knows it’s there, it bothers him. This issue presents an ongoing challenge – especially when I run my business from home and the kids still need to be minded while I … Continue reading
If you’re like me, the thought of making New Year’s resolutions isn’t very appealing. In the past, I used to come up with some pretty lofty goals, only to leave them by the wayside two weeks later. So, a few years ago I resolved not to make resolutions… Continue reading
There’s something I’ve been meaning to do, but I just can’t bring myself to do it.
My toddler is 18 months old and still hooked on nursing. I haven’t even taken the first steps towards weaning him. Continue reading
