The Endorsement Parents Look For

So unfortunately we’ve joined the “KEEP PEANUTS AWAY FROM MY CHILD!” club. We made this discovery a few weeks after Leah turned 1 year old.  I knew that the books recommended waiting until after the age of 1 to introduce peanuts so a few weeks after Leah’s first birthday, I thought it would be okay to let her taste my peanut butter toast when she showed interest in it one morning. She touched the peanut butter and tasted it, but didn’t seem to particularly like it. Before I could wash her hands, she got some on her face and started … Continue reading

Could you be orthorexic? I believe, in the past, I may have been. What is orthorexia? Read & reflect honestly – do you see yourself or someone you know in this description? Continue reading

I’ve been weight training & working out since I was 17 or 18 years old.  I’ve been a personal trainer since 19.  I’ve counseled, trained & motivated literally hundreds of people to lose fat.  I’ve also lost fat myself – I’ve had 2 babies in the last 4 years.  The point is, I know a thing or two about fat loss. And I’ve never, ever, ever used a muscle building supplement, fast, cleanse or other nutritional program to  help me either gain muscle or lose fat.  I think I’ve done alright without them, if I do say so myself. One … Continue reading

Most of my clients drink water during our sessions.  I have one client who sees me at 6:30 a.m. (yes… I start work at 6:30 a.m…aren’t you glad you’re not a personal trainer?) and she usually starts her day with a half-cranberry-half-water with a scoop of fibre supplement.  Another client always has a jug of water and a half cup of black coffee for sipping.  Everyone is different! Me? Personally, I’m a water gal. Cold.  And lots of it. Sometimes, in Belly Bootcamp classes, a tired mommy lacking that “zip” we all used to have before night feedings and temper … Continue reading

We mommies sure can find any excuse to feel guilty.  This week, I had the best intentions of coming up with some vintage store, urban take on my preschooler’s stereotypical princess costume.  Last Hallowe’en, she was still small enough for me to “suggest” she might want to be a cute little ladybug.  But now she’s 3 and it’s all princesses, princesses, princesses. So I found myself, strapped for time, at the mall picking through the polyester costume-in-a-bag selection.  She got her princess costume.  And she loves it!  But I feel guilty for not providing a homemade, hand-sewn costume. I can’t … Continue reading

What happened?! I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but around here it’s turned from 45-degrees and blazing sun to 8-degrees and rainy in a matter of days. Pumpkin patches are brimming with orange jewels and the furnace is on… it’s time to take control of my kitchen again! Fall is soup weather. And if you’re watching your waistline, soup should be a staple in your diet. The water content of soup helps fill you up on fewer calories. Soup makes a great light meal with a side salad or, if eaten as an appetizer, soup is proven … Continue reading

My first “Thirsty Thursday” Post !! Cheers As of today…Christmas is 79 days away ! Thanks giving is right around the corner ! Halloween, mere days aways! The temptations will be endless as will the LIBATIONS! How can you say no? And quite frankly, why would you want to? As human beings (women)  we work so hard all year long. Our jobs, our families, our friends, we give 200% on a regular basis and damn it…we deserve to enjoy the season and all (the buffet ) it has to offer. I don’t count calories…never have. I’m not very good with … Continue reading

I have pretty good body image, I think. Sure, there are things about myself I’d like to change but I only focus on the things I can change with healthy habits. For every part of myself I am not crazy about, I can name another thing with which I really am satisfied – even happy. I am still breastfeeding, and I have some weight left to lose after my last baby was born in November, but overall I feel alright. But cellulite. If there is one part of postpartum that makes me feel as unattractive as possible, it’s the cellulite. … Continue reading
