A little over a year ago my daughter who is now four was playing. She stuck a felt marker in her ear and the tip broke off. I was able to hold her while she screamed and panicked. I removed the marker tip with tweezers and took her to the hospital. Luckily damage was minor and healing was quick. Understandably she has been quite nervous about things near her ears ever since. Two months ago we got some warm weather. We live in the country and I was airing out the house. I had the windows open and a bug flew … Continue reading
While we’re raising our children Jewish (I’m Jewish, my husband isn’t), we do sometimes “celebrate” non-Jewish holidays. After-all, one set of grandparents isn’t Jewish and we don’t want to deprive them of what I’m sure was their life-long dream of spoiling their grandkids during the holidays. So this season, the two competing holidays that we’re celebrating are Passover & Easter. However, I have to hand it to the non-Jews, Easter seems to have the upper hand, and here’s why. Dinner Easter – nice and quick one course turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Passover – nice long four course meal … Continue reading
We just had a great school bus pick up. So great I came straight in here to write this post and share. Our daughter turned four in December and is in junior Kindergarten. She goes to school Mondays, Wednesdays and every other Friday (all day). I was nervous sending her to school this year as full days are tiring and her being younger, may have been too much. Well, she quickly embraced school and loved it…..for a couple of months. The last few weeks have been an emotional nightmare. Every morning our daughter will negotiate with us to go to school. … Continue reading
This year is S’s first year of school. She is a young JK student (just turned 4 in Dec) She is very excited for so many first experiences being at school has to offer. The biggest one right now is Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day for us grown up is about romance and love. For kids it is fun and goodies. Our school has many allergies so the kids can not bring in very many treats. Dairy and nut allergies make if somewhat difficult to figure out what to send anyway. We are sending in cards and each card has a … Continue reading
At one time or another, I’m pretty sure we have all struggled with getting our kids to eat the required servings of fruits and vegetables each day. I know, in the past I have tried to get the servings into them via fruit smoothies, fruit faces on bowls of oatmeal, ants on a log…{no, not real ants…celery sticks filled with cheese and topped with raisins…lol} and adding grated carrots to pasta sauce. These options all work well, but lets face it, we are all very busy and these “tricks” may be great for the week-ends and holidays, but what about the rest of the … Continue reading
Prior to my current gig as a stay-at-home-mom (SAHM), I worked for a large, multi-national corporation. While the pay was decent, the benefits were better. Specifically, they had some great benefits to assist parents. You know, the work-life balance thing. Beyond the standard paternity / maternity leave and top-up, and work-life-balance workshops, my work offered a flexible spending account. We each had $1,500 a year that we could use for any of the following: – Contribute a portion to your RRSP – Use for professional services such as getting a Will made – Use for gym membership or for products … Continue reading
As my second pregnancy comes to an end, I had some time (read: sleepless nights) to reflect back about my current pregnancy and my first one. I realized that there’s a lot of differences actually. Here’s some of the major ones that came to mind for me: 1.During my 1st pregnancy, my husband came along with me to ALL of my Doctor appointments. For this pregnancy the count is 0. 2.1st pregnancy: I stayed away from everything that’s bad for you (i.e. raw meat and fish, caffeine, alcohol, etc…). 2nd pregnancy: ate some raw fish at a wedding and didn’t … Continue reading
While Kyle isn’t great at socializing with kids his own age, he does love playing with older kids. He also adores babies; and mostly, he’s very gentle with them. This is a good thing, since we’re expecting our second child in two months. From the moment we found out I was pregnant, we told our son Kyle about it. At the time, he wasn’t talking much, so we weren’t worried about him spilling the beans. More recently, we have stepped up our discussions of the impending birth of our second child and read to him daily one of our “I’m … Continue reading
