The Endorsement Parents Look For

As you can see, I have been a little MIA here on the blog.  Just about a little over a year ago, my best-friend and my children’s god-mother passed away after having to go through multiple surgeries following a head-on collision. To me, it just feels like yesterday. While I was mourning my friend’s passing, as a mother, I had to make sure that my kids understood what had happened and comfort them as well. Two weeks prior to passing, she had flown in from Chicago to be with my family.  My 5-year old had a special connection with her … Continue reading

The day that I started my evaluation for Learn to Read by Reading Eggs, I found out my daughter was having problems with the first letter sounds of the words.  At first, I didn’t understand what the teacher was saying, but after she explained, it made sense. I want to start out by saying that my daughter did not attend an academic preschool nor did we teach her how to read at home.  I just presumed that once she started Kindergarten, she would learn there. Well, the school she goes to, although public, is one of the highest rated elementary … Continue reading

Have you often found yourself trying to find the perfect gift for that special person in your life?  Sometimes it’s more difficult than ever because they probably have everything you can think of.  After contemplation, you decide to get a gift card to the store of their choice. How about changing things up this year and making a contribution on their behalf to an organization in need?  For me, holidays represent the time of giving.  Whether it’s donating a $20 bill to the local veteran in need (when I lived in Chicago, I would always donate money to the blind … Continue reading

Recently,  I was going through my past blog entries, and wanted to share this post with you.  A lot of my friends and neighbors have come to me about skincare and how to read labels, and while skimming through this post, I thought I would share it with you (I wrote this while I was pregnant with my second child, and she is now 1 years old). I am very particular in what sort of things go on my skin. Especially since our body’s largest organ is our skin, and everything that is penetrated into the skin, has an overall affect … Continue reading

Do you ever get stumped when you are thinking of what to cook for your kids?  Recently, my daughter has been avoiding anything green at all cost.  She will eat a spinach salad because I told her that she will have flawless skin forever, however, forget about trying to get her to eat broccoli, kale, and peas (these are all vegetables she use to love eating “raw”<–her choice, not my doing).  So it’s been quite the challenge to keep her nutritionally balanced, in these recent months. My daughters both love avocado and I saw a recipe on Chef Chloe’s blog that … Continue reading

And you say, just how?  They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well in this day and age, it takes the world to save the world. We all need to take a step in changing the world. When my daughter started preschool, I noticed a lot of bagged lunches being brought to school. Unless those bags are being reused again on a daily basis, those bags become a part of our world’s landfills.  Now, that is happening all across the world which has a direct impact on our world’s environment. After feeling like I had to do … Continue reading

When I was young (let say 10-14), I really never thought about dating, much less think about sex.  Call me a prude, conservative, abstinent, hormone deficient, whatever, I just never sat there thinking about boys at that age.  I was more about my dance, gymnastics, and musical activities.  If I did have some spare time, I would hang out with my best friend at the mall or the local swimming pool.  Of course, I had little childhood crushes here and there, but nothing my parents would’ve been worried about.  It was as far as, “You know so and so likes … Continue reading

So what person doesn’t like free?  Especiallly with many households trying to make ends meet and not having the luxury of spending money, other than paying off bills. It’s always nice to hear about free food, free events, and anything free in general.  I am always trying to find activities to do with my little ones that don’t cost an arm and a leg, and can create a lifetime of memories. Summer months can be fun and difficult.  I love spending time with my children but the truth is that they get bored and I get bored, trying to do … Continue reading
