I recently blogged about heading back to work after my maternity leave and now that I’m more or less ‘settled’ into a routine it’s time for an update. The short and simple is that managing kids, work, and your marriage is hard! And that might be the understatement of the year. Getting up early in the mornings = hard Getting the kids up and ready for school / daycare on time = hard Missing your kids while you’re at work = hard Putting in 110% at work to get back into a groove = hard Keeping up with the housework … Continue reading
Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s back to work I go. Well here it is. That day that so many moms have to face after about 12 months at home with their little one: THE END OF MAT LEAVE. This is the exact opposite of crossing off the days until Christmas. This is the end of summer vacation times ten. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I work for a great company, have lots of friends at work, am going back to a promotion and have even been looking forward to getting back into the swing of things at the … Continue reading
You may have heard by now that pictures taken with your smartphone can pose a potential security risk because of automatic geotagging. For the un-technically savvy, this means that the GPS in your phone can automatically attach your location and information to your picture. So when you take adorable pictures of your kiddos and upload them to social media sites, people – or more specifically predators – can track your geographic location. Scary! This video is an eye-opener and must-see for all parents. There are ways to turn the tracking off in your smartphone so you can safely post to … Continue reading
While we all know that various credit cards offer rewards such as cash back, or points to be used towards trips or redeemed as gifts, it seems that a lot of people aren’t aware of the other perks that come with having a credit card. Important disclaimer: Now I’m not saying you should run out and use your credit card just because you have one. In fact, if you can’t afford to pay off the balance each month then I strongly suggest you leave it at home – the interest you’ll pay far outweighs the benefits. However, if you’re using … Continue reading
So riddle me this… How did a little boy end up with two baby brothers, born on the same day, who aren’t twins? Give up? His parents are divorced and both his mom and step-mom delivered babies (both boys) less than three hours apart. Sounds like a pretty good made-for-TV movie right? Or how about an urban legend? Welcome to my world, or rather my twilight zone – and to my family. I’m the step-mom. I’m fairly certain that our family is as unique as they come. At least judging by the reaction we get when our son talks about … Continue reading
In our house, we try to go green whenever we can. We buy environmentally-friendly products, bring reusable bags to the grocery store and repurpose wherever possible. So needless to say I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to test LunchSkins. Fact: Every day, more than 20 million sandwich bags from school lunches go into landfills in the US. That is a frightening statistic, and one of the main reasons that 3greenmoms invented LunchSkins. LunchSkins are reusable fabric snack, sandwich and sub bags, that are not only super cute, but dishwasher-safe! Yes, that’s right. You can put them right … Continue reading
A few years ago my husband and I took a first aid course. It was during a time when there was an unusually high number of infant/child drownings, which particularly hit home having a child who couldn’t swim. In uncharacteristic John and Soulla form, we decided to take preemptive measures in case we ever found ourselves in one of those terrifying situations. *knock on wood* Often times, people wait until it’s too late and get caught unprepared in an emergency situation and we definitely didn’t want that to be the case. So we signed up and attended the course and … Continue reading
Big Fat Hen (love the name) has created a warm, stylish and practical blanket – a triple threat. It’s the perfect blanket for on-the-go. Forget the Amex, now that the cold weather is upon us we don’t leave home without it. It fits on the car seat or stroller and always keeps Carson warm. We also use it as a comfy playmat for Carson to sprawl out on the floor, or to wrap him up as he naps on the couch. Heck, I’ve even used it to nap with since it’s so soft (I just wish it was a little bigger). … Continue reading
