The Endorsement Parents Look For

Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for an evaluation and review, however this did not effect my decisions. All opinions and experiences are completely honest and 100% my own. Ok, so maybe I’m strange – but when I learned I had the chance to review a new set of paper towels from Bounty, I was actually really excited. Maybe not in the usual way, but in an “I’m a Homeschool Mom and we can take this opportunity to do some cool experiments!” way. My boys were right on board. Let me introduce you to the new Bounty DuraTowel. (We … Continue reading

Today’s Words are : Get Together. As a homeschooling parent, there’s always the dreaded question from people who don’t understand homeschooling that ask “What about socialization?” In reality, this is such a minor concern that it doesn’t even blip on my radar. But it IS important to teach our kids how to interact and behave with other kids – whether we homeschool, public school, or any other life situation! How can you get together? Here’s a few suggestions: Mommy groups. If you have a baby or a toddler, you can probably find a local mommy play group that meets regularly … Continue reading

Today’s word: Fingerprints. I know I’m not the only one who cringes when I look at the fingerprints that cover the walls of my home. Where we live, we actually have annual house inspections to evaluate how we’re maintaining our homes – and these prints are the bane of my pre-inspections cleaning craze. I spend hours scrubbing them off the walls as I prep. Here’s the truth though. One day, I’ll miss these little hands. Before I know it, the fingerprints won’t cover my walls. I’ll be eagerly waiting my adult children to visit. My walls will be clean but … Continue reading

Today’s word: Encouragement. “You can do it. I believe in you.”  It’s amazing how such a small statement can change your efforts from near to quitting to pushing ahead to finish. Kids need our support and encouragement as they move through life. After all, we are the adults that they count on the most in their lives, so having us as cheerleaders means even more. Whether it be something like finishing their math questions or playing their favourite sport or aiming for a specific goal – it’s up to us to help them not give up. How can we as … Continue reading

Today’s word is : Discuss Do you ever have family meetings? In our house, we homeschool – so we often sit around the table and chat, but often our best discussions happen when everyone is sitting in the van, strapped in and unable to get away! We have had conversations about everything from the silly to the serious. It’s amazing to listen to the kids because they have such insight into topics. When I was a kid, we had family meetings. My mom had a special notebook that she wrote down our ideas and suggestions, topics we wanted to cover … Continue reading

Today’s word is Conflict. With kids, there’s bound to be conflict. Add siblings and it’s almost guaranteed. Out on the playground, in play groups, and even at home, there are plenty of times that situations occur where children need to make a choice in order to either make the problem escalate or be diffused. The hardest part is for them to learn the steps they can pick to solve the conflict. It’s important to teach the kids the difference between what is a  big and a small conflict and how to handle each one. Small conflicts are things that are … Continue reading

Today’s word is: Boundaries. A boundary is defined as “something that indicates the furthest limit.” In parenting, this usual is the mark that we set as acceptable for behaviour or expectations before we have to follow through with some method of discipline or consequence. Boundaries are an important part of development for our children. Similar to baby gates that block the stairs for their safety as infants, setting limits for kids allows them to understand what is acceptable, and what is not. Some examples of boundaries we set are things like bedtimes, not leaving the backyard when playing outside, having … Continue reading

Today’s word is: Advice. Something about being having a child means that you are instantly open to a world of advice and opinions from just about anywhere: family, friends, strangers, people who have kids and those who don’t, shelves and shelves of books at the store, teachers, doctors and other professionals, – heck, even TV shows and commercials. It’s everywhere. And on just about any topic! From food choices and birth options when you are pregnant, to parenting styles, to “the big controversies” like vaccinations, breastfeeding, and circumcisions, to even the little things like how to pick a day care … Continue reading

I am a busy, homeschooling mom of 3 boys, currently aged 4, 6, & 8. When I not trying to keep my house from looking like a tornado zone, teaching the kids something, or folding laundry, I'm usually on my computer - blogging, surfing, chatting, playing games. Working on a college diploma in Web Design, I find a lot of enjoyment from my new attempts at learning to crochet and squeezing in some time to read.
