Recently, my daughter has been asserting her own, uh, independence. Independence from things like “bedtime” and “naptime” and “reasonable wake up times” and because of it, her schedule is all out of sorts. This means that getting her to sleep is a big huge struggle, often involves bargaining, and most of the time, involves tears {mine}. While the major problem might be that she’s simply outgrowing her nap and moving towards being a full-time big girl, there are definitely other issues regarding her sleep. Things like the fact that she cannot tell time so she has no idea her schedule’s … Continue reading
I’m not always the craftiest person, and I’ve been known to start a million projects I never end up finishing, but when I’m backed into a corner and need something I can’t seem to find anywhere else, I typically do a fairly good job of improvising…. even if that means making something from scratch. These little dresses came about that very way as I was trying to clothe 4 flower girls for my cousin’s wedding and not finding anything that had the style or price tag I was hoping for. I had never made a tutu before, so admittedly I … Continue reading
Last month I hosted the #SeattleBaby blogger baby shower for new and expecting mom bloggers in the Seattle area. We had a huge turnout of local bloggers as well as many on Twitter tweeting with us. During the event, I showcased our favorite brands for mom and baby, including some awesome PTPA winners! We all had a blast and are thinking we might make this a yearly thing. A big thank you to everyone who helped tweet and retweet during the party, I couldn’t have done it without you! Kerri from The Maven of Social Media {picture snapped by Cristi … Continue reading
Remember when being a “gamer” meant you loved board games? Now there are handheld games, computer games, console games, electronic games, and more that all compete for this title, most of which are missing the collaborative and tactile nature of board games of our youth. And, that’s where Sifteo Cubes comes in. Sifteo is a unique electronic game made up of three separate touchscreen cubes {up to 9 additional cubes can be purchased for even more fun} that communicate wirelessly with each other to shake your game out of the box and allow you to take gaming to a whole … Continue reading
With two doll age children at our house and an American Girl store just minutes away, you can bet we’re big fans of the PTPA-winning brand. In fact, we love it so much that we even did up a gift guide entirely of American Girl products for the holidays. So, you can imagine our excitement when “our” store gets new dolls in, especially one as pretty as this: Meet Saige, the Girl of the Year for 2013. Saige is a 9-year-old little girl from Albuquerque who feisty and fun. With a horse named Picasso, a Border collie, a hot air … Continue reading
As you know, we love the PTPA award-winning American Girl brand. When my daughter is not playing with her McKenna doll or her Kit doll, she’s looking through the American Girl catalog and dreaming of one day getting to play with everything inside its glossy pages. But, this year, there was one big item that caught her eye that she had a hard time leaving at the Seattle store when we visited, and that is Julie’s 1974 Volkswagen Beetle and car wash set. Not only is this car seriously cute, it also has a working radio, a running motor noise … Continue reading
While I take thousands of pictures each year, I’m not very good about actually getting those pictures into frames on my walls. I rarely change things up once I’ve got pictures framed, matted, and hung and they end up staying like that permanently. Basically, I’m boring. But, recently my walls got quite the shakeup when the PTPA winning BumbleJax offered to print up a picture that was taken this summer of the kiddos. But, this wasn’t just any ordinary photo print; this was an acrylic mounted print that doesn’t require a frame. As cool as this sounded, even as I … Continue reading
From my experience, diaper pails are one of the few baby items that just don’t get a lot of thought. Most people ask a few close friends what pail they use and register for it, or they simply pick one at random when the time comes. I was one of those that did the latter and I always despised the pail I ended up with. Not only was it ugly, it was smelly, and it was expensive to refill. When I wasn’t on the hunt for cheap refills, I was searching for products I could use to clean and sanitize … Continue reading
