I despise the term “soccer mom”. Don’t get me wrong – I love soccer moms. I probably will be one come Spring since my 5 year old wants to take up soccer. I just hate the image that “soccer mom” implies. New generations of mom (and by new I mean if you’ve had kids in the last ten years) thankfully are giving new style to “soccer moms”. I don’t always feel my greatest, but I do make an effort to look somewhat decent before I step outside to greet the world. If you’re like me, you spend your mornings getting … Continue reading
First off, I love bookstores – old, new – love them. So many inspiring stories, wonderful tales, all in one place. As a kid, I loved spending days curled up reading a good book. I used to spend hours at the bookstore trying to find that special book that would take me away on a exciting journey. I used to spend hours in Indigo (pre-kids), flipping through books and magazines. After I had kids, I wanted to share with them the wonders of books and to stretch their imagination. So, when the opportunity came up to visit IndigoKids I immediately … Continue reading
For some of you, the weather is not quite Spring and not quite Winter – it’s as my son says, “Sprinter!” Ignore the snow on the ground – it’s officially Spring in my mind. If you’ve visited the beauty counters lately, the bright bold colours of spring are everywhere. But lets not forget the nails! Us mommies use our hands a lot. Our hands are probably the one area of the body we often neglect. Like the eyes, our hands can give away our age if we don’t take care of them. Here are some tips to get them ready … Continue reading
I think motherhood is sexy. We do it all and we do it well. We may not always look our best while doing mommy things, so having a day like Valentine’s Day to get all dolled up is in order! How many of you really celebrate V-Day? For me, the only thing I love about it is the heart-shaped chocolates! My husband and I don’t go all out like we used to now that we’re married – not to say that we don’t have any romance – but we don’t need one day to show how much we love each … Continue reading
Pregnant women are often said to have the “pregnancy glow”. Actress Natalie Portman at this year’s Golden Globe Awards definitely had that glow and looked absolutely gorgeous baby bump and all (although her dress was not my favourite). I’ve just announced that I’m pregnant with my 2nd child and I’m wondering “Where the hell is my glow??” It could be the combination of the cold weather and my hormones, but my skin looks as though it has been zapped of all moisture! I don’t quite remember my skin being this dry during my first pregnancy but that could be because … Continue reading
How many of you caught the red carpet coverage of the Golden Globes last night? How many of you actually watched the awards show? For most award shows, the only thing I look forward to is the red carpet coverage but since Ricky Gervais was hosting I just had to watch the whole show! Again ,he was hilarious with his unforgiving digs at the celebrities and was just true to himself through and through. I think overall all the ladies looked beautiful with the exception of a few wacky styles (Helena Bonham Carter – gotta love her!). The colour trends … Continue reading
Happy New Year! Yes, we’re 10 days into the new year and I’ll admit – I needed an extra week to recover from the busy yet blissful holiday. Plus, it didn’t help that I was feeling a little under the weather but I’m back and looking forward to another year full of beauty! “Beauty resolutions” seem to be all the buzz in the beauty world. Rather than the typical goal of losing weight and eating better, why not be a little more daring and creative with beauty and everything else in your life? If you’ve been in a beauty rut, … Continue reading
Nothing says party hair then a head of beautiful wavy curls. This is one look I do often when I’m stepping out to a special event. You’ll want to start with lots of volume in the hair. The key to making this hair less cute and more Victoria Secret-esque is to do big curls. Apply a volumizing spray or mousse to the root of the hair and blow dry the root up if styling from wet. You can use your hands to direct the hair up. Once the hair is completely dry, wrap 1 inch sections of your hair around … Continue reading
