Before having kids we used to enjoy the occasional game night with our friends. A few of us couples would get together and play a few of our favourite board games to help us unwind after a long and difficult work week. Along with the games, we would share about what was going on in our lives over delicious appetizers, wine coolers, and beer. We would laugh until we’d cry. We always had a blast together and could not wait until the next game night to come around. The days of sleeping in after a night out with our friends … Continue reading
Growing up, my house was always full of music. When my mom and dad hosted impromptu parties the record/cassette/CD players were always turned on full blast. This is the reason why I was the only kid in Grade 3 who knew who Meatloaf was and the songs they sang. When I made enough money one summer I bought my very own stereo system. I would turn it on the moment I got home from school and listened to music until I went to bed (sometimes I even put on the sleep timer and would fall asleep listening to it). I … Continue reading
They say “Patience Is A Virtue.” But not in my world. My patience has flown the coop! The last few days have been challenging to say the least. Sometimes I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I definitely will not be winning any “Mother Of The Year” awards any time soon. My kids have been testing my patience and my strength. They just cannot seem to get along for more than two minutes. Or they are whining and complaining about this or that. Can someone just please make it stop? I feel like all I say … Continue reading
Because of Twitter I have made many great connections with a lot of fascinating and extraordinary people. Laura Berg, the creator and genius behind My Smart Hands, is one of those people. My Smart Hands is a program designed to help parents of hearing children teach their children American Sign Language (or ASL for short) so that they can effectively communicate with their parents before they even learn to talk. Using ASL helps eliminate frustration on both sides, the parents and the children’s perspective, as the parent knows what the child wants and the child is able to communicate to their parent … Continue reading
Are your kids driving you crazy already this summer? I know mine are! I love them dearly but my oh my, please stop with the whining already! To cure the “I’m bored” syndrome, I’ve put together an outdoor scavenger hunt to occupy the little monsters, I mean dearies. It is part of our summer bucket list. Tip – Try to find a few objects on the list each day. That way your kids are not too overwhelmed. An Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Find a maple leaf. Spot a butterfly. Find an acorn. Pick a dandelion. Feel a prickly plant. Slide down … Continue reading
It seems as though when you have children – privacy and personal space just go out the window. Sometimes you just want to lock yourself away. Image Source: © Silvia Ganora | Dreamstime.com I cannot use the washroom or be in the washroom without little feet, or slightly bigger little feet, following me inside. I like to have baths, even in the morning sometimes in place of my regular shower, just to relax and have some time to myself. But soon I can hear the pitter-patter of little feet coming in, followed by little face with a big smile saying “hi … Continue reading
Good morning! My name is Brandy and I am proud to say that I am one of your newest PTPA Blogaholics! I am super excited to be a part of this great community! I cannot wait to get to know the panel of blogaholics better as well as the many readers who visit this very informative web site. I live in a Northern Manitoba town with my small family. I grew up not to far from here. Actually only a half an hour away. I swore I would never return “home” after leaving for university but guess where I ended … Continue reading
