Not unlike other families, when it became obvious that baby formula was the way we were going to have to go, I discussed the pros and cons of different brands with our pediatrician. I had also done research on my own so I had some ideas. I was surprised to hear her echo what I had already discovered on my own. Instead of trying to push a name brand formula, she suggested that we try different ones and consider the store brands because they all met the same nutritional standards. She understood just how much baby formula costs! We did … Continue reading
As a mother, I have realized just how short the life span of a toy can be. Whether the child loses interest or grows to be too big physically for the product, very few children’s toys have a lengthy life span. I have noticed as my son has gotten older that he likes certain toys for longer periods of time but many of the toys from his first year of life look brand new because they didn’t get much play time. Plus, children’s toys can be expensive! I am always on the hunt for a good deal when it comes … Continue reading
Growing up, Valentine’s Day was always special in my family because my mom would always get us a little surprise. Instead of being all about romantic love, it was about the love of a mother for her children and I looked forward to it every year. As I got older, I started returning the favor and bought my mom a gift each year. While many may lament about the loneliness of Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t have to be that way! You can instead focus on the different types of love in your life, especially the love for your child. Here … Continue reading
I know how important it is to eat healthy and set a good example for my son. About 8 years ago I lost 85 pounds so I understand the value of eating a healthy diet and staying active. With all of that said, I will also admit that I love french fries! I wasn’t always a fan of french fries but in recent years (and especially when I was pregnant) my love and appreciation for them has grown. As a result, I will share that W has tried french fries and he enjoys them too. I know most kids like … Continue reading
The worries about whether or not I would be a “good” mother started the moment I saw the first positive pregnancy test. (I use the word good loosely because I often wonder what exactly it means in relationship to parenting.) I work with children all day long, but I worried about being a “good” mother. While I was pregnant I worried a lot about what I ate and the exercise I did. I wanted my little man to be born healthy and strong. During the first few weeks I worried about how he was getting fed and whether I was … Continue reading
This week I have been trying to get back on track with my fitness goals and I have been doing better. At this point, the days of going to the gym 5-6 times a week are not feasible for me but I’ve been doing workout videos and have gotten back to trying to master a certain arm workout I have been on a quest to master! It’s called 30-20-10 and involves doing 30 tricep dips followed by 30 push ups (on knees for now), then 20 and 20, followed by 10 and 10. I did manage to do them all … Continue reading
I wanted to stop in and say hello to all the PTPA fans and take a quick moment to introduce myself. My name is Mariah and I’m a thirty-something (I remember when my mom watched that show) new mom to my amazing little man, who was born late 2010. I’m also a full-time elementary school teacher and am gearing up to begin my 7th year of teaching. I’ve been married for 3 years and met my wonderful husband on Match.com. Yes, internet dating can work! Actually, I know a number of couples who have found love and are happily married as … Continue reading
