I remember back in the 80s and 90s, I didn’t know anyone with a food allergy. My first experience with food allergies was at a BBQ party in high school. One of the boys had a peanut allergy, but never told the parents who were hosting the party. There just so happened to be peanut butter used in the BBQ marinade. All the teenage boys were inhaling the kebabs and that one boy with the peanut allergy all of a sudden started gasping for air. He couldn’t breathe. His eyes got puffy and his face started turning red and then … Continue reading
Image source here via Google Images With today being Earth Day, I’m excited (and curious) to find out what everyone’s doing with their kids in celebration of this special day. To be honest, I love that this day is recognized, but I do believe Earth Day should be every day. As parents, it’s our job to teach our kids about treading a little lighter on the earth and making decisions that will be gentler on our planet. Little One is really excited that today is Earth Day! At four years of age, she is looking forward to all the fun activities … Continue reading
I was under the serverely misguided impression that once my baby was a toddler and long past infancy, I would be getting a good night’s sleep. Wrong. My daughter is now four years old and though she loves her sleep (she’s not a morning person!), she sometimes often wakes up in the middle of the night. The Witching Hour for her is usually around 3AM. She doesn’t wake up completely, but often cries and complains about having foot pain or leg pain. Sometimes it’s a tummy ache and sometimes it’s a bad dream that causes her to scream in the … Continue reading
Last week, during our #10kptpa celebration, we asked you, our fans, to share some of your parenting insights. I was really impressed by Blogaholic, LisaMarieF’s The ABCs of Parenting Challenge blog post that it prompted me to ask on Twitter, “What are some of your parenting insights?” An overwhelming number of PTPA fans and followers shared some amazing parenting gems. Here are but a few that caught my eye: “On those tough days take a deep breath and remember they grow up fast and enjoy them while you can.” @lindal3520 “I teach my children to be respectful, kind, and grateful for … Continue reading
For many parents, finding ways to help their children who suffer from eczema can be a challenge. Eczema can vary from persistent skin conditions of dryness and recurring rashes to the more severe blistering, cracking, crusting, or flaking. Fellow Blogaholic, Carol Gomez (of the blog Carol Au Courant) wrote about her daughter’s recent eczema flare ups here. It’s not pleasant – no matter what your age is, but for some reason it always seems worse when it’s a young child experiencing pain and discomfort like this. I was surprised at the number of infants and young children that are affected … Continue reading
There’s nothing more amazing and heartwarming than seeing the look of awe and amazement in your child’s face. When my child is at home from school, we love reading books, baking, going for hikes, doing science experiments, arts and crafts, and just having lots of fun together. I’ve got a whole slew of experiments and craft ideas in folders, but am always looking for more fun and educational things to do with her. We were so excited when were introduced to Discovery Box! Green Kids Crafts sends kids a monthly Discovery Box packed with eco-friendly, educational, hands on arts, crafts … Continue reading
