Everyone loves my chicken soup and I’ve been asked many times for my recipe so I’ve decided to share it with all of you. Important facts about chicken soup: The bigger the pot the more chicken you need to use. This soup freezes perfectly and can easily be defrosted in the microwave (if necessary). Best to freeze in plastic containers because the soup expands as it freezes and glass jars often crack. Don’t put noodles or matzah balls into the soup when freezing – add afterwards. The starch turns the soup cloudy. Freeze balls separately. You can put any vegetables … Continue reading
Its the Christmas holidays and everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends – except me! My daughter and her family are on vacation in Florida, visiting with Zaida, enjoying the sunshine and Disneyworld. I miss them terribly – its hard for me and admittedly, its lonely – but technology has made it a lot easier! The kids drove to Florida, and my daughter texted and emailed me all the way down – I love my Blackberry. I always worry about what the weather will be like on the drive (I’m a Jewish Mother – that’s what I do) … Continue reading
I have suffered for over 20 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis, so this cream was perfect for me to test. I’m so thrilled that it earned the PTPA Seal of Approval!
Despite the fact that I take a number of medications for my arthritis, I still get achiness or soreness in some joints, specifically my hands, wrists, elbows and knees. My hands and wrists are really the most sensitive joints, because I use them all the time. Quite often I spread some of this cream on my right wrist and forearm and elbow and I received instant relief. In addition, the consistency was very creamy and easy to spread, and there is no scent or fragrance at all. This allowed me to continue to do whatever I was doing – which includes typing on my computer, doing needlepoint stitching, or just cleaning up the kitchen after a meal. If your hands hurt, it can affect your whole body and how you feel. Most activities we do in a day involve our hands.

Moving is a completely different experience when you’re 60 years’ old and alone. Moving when you’re young and in love is an adventure. You’re sharing a new home with the man of your dreams, and everything is fun and exciting. My body wasn’t too excited about moving after a 12-hour day of loading all my belongings into an elevator, and then a moving truck, and arriving at my new house and seeing the previous owners still packing all their belongings in green garbage bags! Oh yes, that was a nightmare, but with the help of family and a great moving … Continue reading
My last post talked about a big change for me. I sold my condo and a week later, after looking at a lot of houses, I bought myself a beautiful townhouse in Aurora. Now this is going to be a humongous change for me, but I am excited and can’t wait to get into my new house. Its the in-between that has me worried! Its a big job to move out of a home you’ve lived in for 18 years – even if it is a condo. Everyone accumulates a lot of “stuff” and that includes me. I have done a … Continue reading
Today is the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Last night I sold my condo which I have lived in for almost 18 years. In 1992 I downsized from my house to this beautiful apartment when my daughter when off to university. Now I’m ready to downsize from this big apartment to a smaller townhouse closer to where my children and grandchildren live. Its been a roller coaster few months. I have been thinking about moving for months but every time I came close to listing my home I changed my mind. I hate change! I love the … Continue reading
I worked from the age of 17, after I finished high school, for 40 years straight with little or no break. I worked hard and made a good wage, particularly the years when I owned my own business. I can hear my father’s voice in my head, always telling me to save money – over and over he said that, and did I listen? Unfortunately not enough, because now that I’m retired (for over 2 years’ now) I realize I don’t have nearly enough money to live another 20 years or so, which is probably as long as I’ll live. … Continue reading
I am a stitcher and proud of it! I learned to needlepoint from my Mother when I was a teenager. On our frequent trips to Florida we’d pick up some great needlepoint canvasses and stitch away. In those days you only did the continental (aka basketweave) stitch. Needlepointing has come a long way and there’s hundreds of different stitches that can be used. It is also a hobby that has really taken off and you can make so many exciting things. This “Elephant” is one of my favourite animals. It stands 12″ high and is just a sample of what … Continue reading
