The Endorsement Parents Look For

Author Archives: Bubbie Bonnie

I have lost many people in my life – my son, my husband and my parents and grandparents, so death is not new to me.  My oldest and dearest friend Charles was diagnosed with ALS about a year and a half ago, and he is dying.  I have known Charlie and his wife, Pauline, since 1975.  We come from completely different worlds (I’m from Toronto and they live in Nova Scotia) but for some reason we were immediately attracted to each other, as friends, and over many years our lives have intersected at every important juncture, and we are the … Continue reading

Today’s families are busier than mine was when my kids were growing up.  They have so many activities after school and on the weekend – is it too much? Here is my 9 year old granddaughter Kailey’s schedule for this past weekend: Friday at 7 am she had a ringette tournament and the first game (yes on a school day) Saturday at 7 am she had the second game of the tournament Saturday at 12 noon she had the third game of the tournament *these 3 games were played in Pickering, an hour’s drive from her home Saturday evening Kailey, … Continue reading

Everyone loves my chicken soup and I’ve been asked many times for my recipe so I’ve decided to share it with all of you.  Important facts about chicken soup: The bigger the pot the more chicken you need to use. This soup freezes perfectly and can easily be defrosted in the microwave (if necessary). Best to freeze in plastic containers because the soup expands as it freezes and glass jars often crack. Don’t put noodles or matzah balls into the soup when freezing – add afterwards.  The starch turns the soup cloudy.  Freeze balls separately. You can put any vegetables … Continue reading

MISSING MY FAMILY

Bubbie Bonnie in Just Between Us - 2 comments - posted on Dec 22nd, 2010

Its the Christmas holidays and everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends – except me!  My daughter and her family are on vacation in Florida, visiting with Zaida, enjoying the sunshine and Disneyworld.  I miss them terribly – its hard for me and admittedly, its lonely – but technology has made it a lot easier! The kids drove to Florida, and my daughter texted and emailed me all the way down – I love my Blackberry.  I always worry about what the weather will be like on the drive (I’m a Jewish Mother – that’s what I do) … Continue reading

I have suffered for over 20 years with Rheumatoid Arthritis, so this cream was perfect for me to test. I’m so thrilled that it earned the PTPA Seal of Approval!

Despite the fact that I take a number of medications for my arthritis, I still get achiness or soreness in some joints, specifically my hands, wrists, elbows and knees. My hands and wrists are really the most sensitive joints, because I use them all the time. Quite often I spread some of this cream on my right wrist and forearm and elbow and I received instant relief. In addition, the consistency was very creamy and easy to spread, and there is no scent or fragrance at all. This allowed me to continue to do whatever I was doing – which includes typing on my computer, doing needlepoint stitching, or just cleaning up the kitchen after a meal. If your hands hurt, it can affect your whole body and how you feel. Most activities we do in a day involve our hands.

Moving is a completely different experience when you’re 60 years’ old and alone.  Moving when you’re young and in love is an adventure.  You’re sharing a new home with the man of your dreams, and everything is fun and exciting.  My body wasn’t too excited about moving after a 12-hour day of loading all my belongings into an elevator, and then a moving truck, and arriving at my new house and seeing the previous owners still packing all their belongings in green garbage bags!  Oh yes, that was a nightmare, but with the help of family and a great moving … Continue reading

My last post talked about a big change for me.  I sold my condo and a week later, after looking at a lot of houses, I bought myself a beautiful townhouse in Aurora.  Now this is going to be a humongous change for me, but I am excited and can’t wait to get into my new house.  Its the in-between that has me worried! Its a big job to move out of a home you’ve lived in for 18 years – even if it is a condo.  Everyone accumulates a lot of “stuff” and that includes me.  I have done a … Continue reading
