Since we have so many members (40,000 of you!) who have taken the time to tell us about you and your family, I thought I would take the time to tell you a little about me and why I started PTPA. So here’s the deal: I had just sold my first company shortly before giving birth to my first child. I was one of those moms who knew I was not going to do well on mat leave without some grown up interaction. Don’t get me wrong, I was (and still am) madly in love with my daughter but I … Continue reading
Over the next few days we will be putting a hold on our Social Media pages. Our Social Media Mom, Heather, who all of you have come to love from her facebook posts for PTPA and her tweets as @ptpa has been living at Sick Kids hospital for the last week with her beautiful son Zack. His situation has become critical and I’m sure you will all join me in sending our love and support to Heather at this truly gut wrenching time. We are opening this blog post where you can leave your comments for Heather because nothing keeps … Continue reading

In October, select PTPA families had the opportunity to hang at the Microsoft Kinect Hub in Downtown Toronto to test out the unreleased to the public (at that time) new controller-less video gaming system. There was much hype surrounding this gaming system and whether it was really as easy to use and as ” controller-less” as it claimed to be. Just over a year ago, I wrote a post on whether or not as someone with a very long family history of cancer I was going to get screened for a gene called BRCA1 and BRCA2. I posted the article in December (here’s a link if you are curious), then further debated the topic until June and then decided to get screened. Finding out if you are a cancer gene carrier and thereby changing your life is pretty simple it turns out. Spit into a test tube for under a minute and you’re done. Gross yes, not really a first … Continue reading
I am surrounded by toys and games. I am surrounding by movies and books. But what I am in awe of is Disney. Disney characters surround my home. They are in our board games like Scene It and they are in our vacation photos from our trip to Disney Parks and our Disney Cruise.
They adorn the duvets in my childrens rooms and they are the favorite T-shirts in my childrens drawers. They are on our sippy cups and on our lunch boxes, and their characters wrap my children in warmth after the bath as they are adorned on their bath towels. Toothbrushes are happily used with “Cars” characters and Disney Princesses and pencils and notepads are all Disney themed as well. Our snack packs carry disney characters and even my childrens bookshelves are customized by Disney. Continue reading
