The big news around our house in the last few days has been my 15 month old’s sudden interest in using the potty. I feel like we just finished this process with D, and now L is taking interest! It’s certainly not something I planned on, but when I caught the little monster squatting on the bathroom floor peeing and/or pooping (on several occasions) before his bath, I figured it was time to get the little potty out. Much to my surprise, he peed the first time he sat on it! And then the next 4 times after that as well. I am super proud of him.
I know he’s still young, so the entire process is just beginning, but there’s certainly no harm in continuing with it and seeing where it leads us. L tells me when he’s pooped, and seems to know what he’s doing when he sits on the potty, so those are good signs in my book.
With all of that being said, I’ve never potty trained a boy before! I’m sure the fundamentals are the same either way, but if you’ve got tips, I’d love to hear them. How old was your little one when you potty trained him or her? Share your stories!

I potty trained my oldest daughter at 2.5. She was easy & took to the reward/sticker system like a champ! When my middle turned 2.5, I figured it was time for him. He couldn’t grasp / didn’t care about rewards or stickers of any kind. After 2 weeks with no success, we gave it a break for a month. Attempt 2 didn’t fair much better. I knew he was ready & he understood the concept, he just didn’t care. As long as he had something on( pants, underwear, diaper, whatever) he would have an accident. As long as he was naked, he went on the potty no problems. So, for the next 2 weeks he was naked from the waist down the whole time (other than quick errands where he had to have clothes on, of course!) after 2 weeks, I was able to introduce underwear & we stayed accident free (for the most part!). He also refused to use a little potty. He only wanted to use the potty seat in the real toliet. I’m preparing to train my youngest, a girl, next month. Hopefully she’s as easy as her older sister! Lol
my daughter started at 17 month and my son at 21 months i think. the only dfference being that i found it hard with 2 kids at home. my daughter started school when he was 21 months and i suddenly wasn’t pulled in every direction and could focus on his cues. cuz he was trained in 2 weeks and night trained by the end of the month. the only difference i’ve found is that there is no garuntee that the pee will go straight down into the bowl. and he also insists on peeing like daddy on public toilets which is fine with me.
