The Endorsement Parents Look For

Go ahead and comment! Our bloggers want to hear from you.

One subject that is really hard for me to teach in our homeschooling is phys.ed. I am far from being an athlete. And I’m very out of shape (but trying to work on that). Once a week we head to the Y for a homeschool gym class and swimming lessons. But we need more.

I am so excited about recent PTPA winner Flip 2B Fit and their second game, Bakari.

Flip 2B Fit

Flip2BFit-Box-Photo-300x254 Flip 2B Fit / Bakari {Review & Giveaway}This is a board game designed with fitness in mind. Instead of just being a sit around game, you have to move and exercise. The game comes with action cards in 4 different categories: cardio, strength, yoga & stretching. The goal of the game is to move your token around the park to arrive at the dinosaur playground in the centre. Along the way, you are challenged to pick various cards and complete exercises in order to move forward. Watch out though, because there’s some bad food choices cards which will move you backwards! (Also healthy food choice bonus cards too!). Some of the cards are group co-operation cards … everyone does the challenge and gets to move if they complete the task, while some are a challenge to see who can last the longest.

Some examples of the cards: planks, lunges, downward dog, windmill arms, jumping jacks and crab crawls.

The boys love this game. Our biggest challenge is finding a big enough room for all the movement! I love that this game is for anyone – young or old – it’s just about moving and having fun. Some of the exercises are extremely challenging (planks anyone!?), but all of them are great for your body! It also means that on really hot, wet, or wintery days – we have a way to be active without needing to head outside.

Bakari

PTPA-Wreath-Award-Logo-CMYK-Apr2010 Flip 2B Fit / Bakari {Review & Giveaway}This game was our favourite – it’s more of a concentration style game where you have to match the exercise cards. The exercises are the same as the Flip 2B Fit game. When you make a match – everyone has to complete the exercise. If you don’t match, you choose from one of your cards and do the exercise yourself. It’s hilariously fun, challenging, and I got out exercised by my kids!

I have plans for this game, outside of the actual use. I’m planning to take the cards to our homeschool work times and when they start getting antsy they get to pick out a card and do the exercise. Sometimes we just need that break and something different to change things up. It will be a great way to use excess boy energy in a positive and healthy ways so we can refocus back on our school work!

Hi Morgan – The games are fabulous for kids of all ages! Younger kids need a parents help to read the cards but the games were developed with a 4 year old and an 8 year old and then tested with kids up to HS ages as well! Soon to be coming out with advanced levels so that parents can upgrade the cards to bring more advanced exercises in to the play as kids grow!
Enjoy!

Looks a bit more fun than twister. My son and I never get very far with that because we slip on the plastic dots. This may be more fun bec. we challenge each other to do the exercise.

I am a busy, homeschooling mom of 3 boys, currently aged 4, 6, & 8. When I not trying to keep my house from looking like a tornado zone, teaching the kids something, or folding laundry, I'm usually on my computer - blogging, surfing, chatting, playing games. Working on a college diploma in Web Design, I find a lot of enjoyment from my new attempts at learning to crochet and squeezing in some time to read.
