I don’t have any travel tips…but I could use some since I will be on a 5 hour flight with my LO in December. :S
My tip is to make plenty of stops for potty breaks and so they can stretch their legs.
We sing songs & read signs on our travels
Make sure you bring lots of snacks that are easy to get to. and bring a favourite toy.
Come prepared with toys snacks and things that will keep them busy.
Travel tips
Well the only thing that comes to mind is to bring your camera, i have not traveled much so it’s hard for me answer this question
My tip is to fill an empty baby wipes container with snacks and small toys for each child. That way everything is personalized and contained.
We pack snacks and games, ipod/DS, and for long trips have the portable DVD players.
When travelling with my daughter, we always make sure to carry childrens gravol, lots of colouring books, and a fully charged iphone (she loves the apps)!
Brings snacks, baby wipes, and some toys to keep them busy.
My tips are plan lots of potty breaks and let you child pack a small bag with whatever they want to take in the car for the trip. I have five kids and I let them all pack their own little bag with whatever they want to take to play with I find it works really well
Be prepared, especially when flying. Do not rely on the airline for snacks, blanket, and pillow. Fill you carry on with everything you will need, including Tang or Koolaid singles that you can add to water after you clear security. Also try covering the kids ears with small cups at take off if helps with the ears and the pressure change.
I always pack snack kits in empty wipes containers. At snack time my son gets to pick something out.
ty for the chance
Bring lots of fresh cut veggies, books and play the alphabet game, find letters of the alphabet in order from license plates, street signs, this takes at least one hour from start to finish, oh and you have to point out where you found your letter and say the word, so much fun finding the letter Z. ha ha
that will keep kids busy ty
Pack lots of snacks and a fave blankie/lovey toy
We bring lots of snacks, toys and movies. We also try to take rest stops at fast food restaurants that have play places so our daughter can expend some of her energy.
Be prepared — bring snacks, drinks, toys, and stop often for short breaks….
We found that a lot of the times “adult garbage” is the best toy – e.g. empty boxes, bags, scrap papers, straws, plastic spoons, etc. Just make sure that you supervise your little one while they play with them. Also, a good child carrier really helped.
Be prepared for anything. Have games, make stops, have plenty of snacks, etc. Always remember this simple rule…. Happy Baby = Happy Family!
lots of food!
also, aquadoodles are great- just as entertaining as colouring, but no mess
my only plan is to not stick to a strict schedule! give general timelines but dont worry if you need to amend it!
We take a small bag of snacks, coloring books & crayons, an mp3 player so they can listen to songs, and other activities to keep them occupied during our trips.
I live on Vancouver Island and it costs too mch to get off thr Island but saving up so I dont have any tips for the long trips
We bring snacks for the ride and also the DVD palyer so they can watch movies
I let them choose what they want to bring, books, DS…
As our wee man is not quite three yet, I’ve found that a portable DVD player is a life-saver – and also trying to travel during naptime
Tip: make lists and follow them!
snacks are the way to go…….healthy ones!!
Would love to snag thus awesome prize pack
With 3 little ones it is good to make stops when driving long distances so they can stretch their legs and get out some energy.
Take a baby carrier with you so you can wear your child keeping your hands free to hold luggage, fill out forms at the airport etc.
Be proactive and pack as many games/snacks/books as possible to make sure they are occupied!
I don’t have a travel tip. we don’t travel (youngest 3 kids are 2, 3 and 5). Just going the 5 min drive to walmart is an issue, would not want to be stuck driving with them for hours at a time lol
have a new toy waiting for them when you get to your destination
Snacks, dvd player, and lil presents for each stateline – from the dollar store or happy meals- small toys wrapped in gift paper.
snacks and we like to play the “I spy” game. Not only does it help them with color and object identification it also helps with entertaining them when they say they’re bored.
Snacks, dvd player, books, patience
snacks are always key for us as well as some form of distraction. If it’s a long trip we’ll bring a few cars, some colouring books, and a game or two.
I don’t have any tips to share unfortunately because my first trip with my one year old son is next week! I could definantly use some advice!!! I am so nervous! Thanks for the chance
Good Luck everyone!
great idea
Never forget the pack n play!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure you have lots of snacks and beverages for the car.
rafflecopter name: Lisa K
Have lots of snacks and drinks and plenty of things to entertain them with!
I take a cooler with fresh fruit! Strawberries, peaches, and all that good stuff! Has the sweetness to keep ‘em happy, and the nutrients to keep mom happy!
Always plan and prepare for an emergency or the worst possible scenario, that way when something bad occurs you’re prepared and able to handle it!
Bring lots of new toys and snacks
set realistic goals for traveling time. If you have an expectation to get there in the quickest time possible you will end up frustrated. Figure out the time and add 3-4 more hours to get a realistic time frame. That way you can stop for potty brakes and leg stretches without getting frustrated about the schedule.
my tip would be – grab a back pack for each kid and let them pick out 3-4 toys that can fit in the backpack that they don’t want to leave or that they’re attached to the most right now, then you add paper, coloring books, colored pencils (important-no crayons, they melt,no markers they stain) and then bring a portable dvd player with movies they’ve seen and like and movies they haven’t seen yet – hit up redbox, you can rent the movies for a dollar a day and you can return them to any redbox kiosk anywhere!!!! so pick it up in ny and drop it off in cali-it’s all ok!
I suggest dressing your children (and even yourself) in bright, recognizable clothing. I took a group of four children to a camp in Sweden and we all wore a “travel uniform.” It’s definitely a lot easier to spot kids in a crowd when you know exactly what you’re looking for.
When traveling with an infant try to keep them awake prior to the flight. That way they will be ready to nap while on the plane. I also really recomment nursing or bottle feed during take off and landing. This will help ease the presure on their little ears.
I’d second the advice by Emily R. If you’re taking a road trip, it’s important not to drive for too long at a stretch. Babies and toddlers need enough rest to avoid being cranky.
Snacks and Toys to keep the little ones busy. Also, plan a stop in every 2 hours or so to stretch your legs. If you plan it in then it won’t be such a stressor while travelling.
My little guy is a great traveller! We keep our truck stocked full of books, movies, small trucks and lots of healthy snacks!
Bring lots of snacks, dvd player and movies. If possible, travel during the night. Take breaks and ENJOY traveling.
Keep a stash of toys, etc to keep them busy & entertained; hide it so they don’t see what’s in it, then when they get bored of one thing ~BAM~ you pull out another!
Bring music and lots of snacks!
Hav lots of treats available and some toys and books
various music, toys and imagination. Also helps to have lots of pit stops.
my tip is to bring a lot of books, toys, snacks, schedule stop overs/potty break and bring pillows & blankets @ncbn1
Just be patient and stop often. Kids need to move their legs and their gonna be a lot more calm
plan for frequent stops
Keep ‘em full of snacks! Food is great for idle hands an to avoid meltdowns!
Bring some ‘comforts’ from home for night time, which can always be the most challenging. We always bring their bedtime quilts, their pillows, favourite stuffed animals & bed books. This is assuming we’re driving, of course. Don’t forget the monitors, a night light if needed – and one thing we discovered in many places – tape, velcro or something to help darken a guest room or hotel room, if your child is used to a darker space when sleeping!
I stock up on $1 games/toys. Its new toys and keeps kids occuppied on plane.
Lots of snacks and their favourite toy(s) worked for me on our last family trip!
We love to travel! We go on long car rides often. My LO is 7 months. Sometimes he gets a bit fussy but a good tip would be to bring a portable DVD player. He loves to listen to baby einsteins and watch all the colours and shapes. Also keep relaxed!
I always try to time everything just right. Feed right before keep him awake let him play that way he will nap during travel time!:)
Bring plenty of snacks in individual zippies!Lots of wipes and if it’s a long trip you may want to consider a little potty chair. It comes in handy when you get to a stop and it’s crowded.Or if one little one is sleeping you can stay with the car until they wake.
Pack plenty of snacks & games.
Lots of snacks and DVD with movies. And be prepared for the trip not to go perfect or as planned. But ur family is creating memories so enjoy every minute
Pack easy to eat snacks and a inflatable beach ball to toss around at road stops (keep it in the trunk while driving though! LOL!)
I’ve found that with travelling, practise makes perfect! If you find the idea of a six hour drive from Toronto to Montreal daunting, then take on something easier, like Toronto to Prince Edward County. Work up to the larger road trips or longer flights! And don’t let your kids see you sweat the details! If you take it on as an adventure, (the unavoidable!) bumps along the way are lessons to learn from or they can lead you to a whole different adventure than you ever imagines (Personally, we had a trip to Grand Bend hijacked by an inconsoable baby and an messy diaper mishap… in the end, we had one of our favourite days enjoying St. Jacobs!)
The most helpful thing we have taken on long road trips with our little one is a training potty or a travel potty. Public rest areas and gas station bathrooms are not ideal for little ones and were a source of anxiety for our kiddo.
We sing… a lot!
with 2 children under 2 for driving trips we try to leave around there extended nap time so that way the bulk of the driving can get done before they decide they need to get out of the car for a break.
If you are going to be on a stretch of road(s) where stopping to use a washroom isn’t feasible, bring along a potty! Also try to work your departure time around naps/bedtime so that your kids will sleep. If your nursing, nurse just before you leave so that you don’t have to stop for at least 3-4 hours depending on the age of your baby
We recently traveled for the first time with our little one back in July. He was 6 months old then. My 2 cents…buy a few new toys to let your little one play with on the trip up and back. It will keep them entertained!
We do alot of ispy to keep our children occupied!
We traveled 12 hours by car this summer with a 3 month old, 5 & 8 year old. Best thing was the toy pockets I made for the(they hang on the back of the passanger and drivers seats) 5 & 8 year old to keep their toys and activities in.
Depending on how you’re travelling for air travel lots to keep the occupied that’s easy to carry and earplugs or something to chew on to help if their ears start to hurt with the altitude. We found earphones playing music helped with ours. When choosing toys no loud ones that will annoy you and the other passengers, electronics with headphones work well, maybe their own small blankie and pillow if you can bring it on board.
bring food
