The Endorsement Parents Look For

Go ahead and comment! Our bloggers want to hear from you.

I know, I know. My reviews are going to seem to be all web-based products. It could just be that we are web junkies around here. But I’ll continue to stand by my beliefs that the internet holds many educational and fun activities for kids. Anyhoo….!

Today, I’m going to share our review of PTPA Award Winner-  Jumpstart.com.

This website has been part of our kids’ internet favourites for a couple of years now. They are always wanting to play character games with adventures and activities, and Jumpstart accomplishes this for them. The company of JumpStart has produced quality educational computer programs for a long time – well respected and renowned. This website now brings that skill to a new world for kids.

Basically, there are ever-expanding levels, zones, and worlds for the kids to explore. Some of these worlds are locked until you become a paying member, but even before we were paying for it – there was lots to do! There are games, activities, challenges, and quests.

When the kids log in, they customize their own character with all the options available. Of course, they can always change their character at any point as well. One of the things I like is that the boys had to pick from a combination of pre-listed names and not use their own names.

As soon as that was done – off they went, exploring!

You can pay for a membership, which gives you access to different worlds and activities. A membership also gives you access to another website too (MathBlaster), and you get to download several desktop games as well.

I asked the boys what they liked about it and here’s what they said:

BigKid (8)- “I like that I can quests.” In all fairness, he doesn’t play it very much any more, as Jumpstart’s sister-site MathBlaster is a current favourite for him.

Middle (6) – “I love to go on adventures, and fight badguys, and that I can swim underwater.”

Little (4) – “I like the train area. There’s lot of stuff. I like the fire thing and my mythee.” [A mythee is a pet-like creature that you care for and help to grow.]

Here’s a screenshot of one of the boys’ characters getting ready to choose an adventure. Will you join us?

I am a busy, homeschooling mom of 3 boys, currently aged 4, 6, & 8. When I not trying to keep my house from looking like a tornado zone, teaching the kids something, or folding laundry, I'm usually on my computer - blogging, surfing, chatting, playing games. Working on a college diploma in Web Design, I find a lot of enjoyment from my new attempts at learning to crochet and squeezing in some time to read.
