The Endorsement Parents Look For

Go ahead and comment! Our bloggers want to hear from you.

Dream

You ever have that dream where you go to the gym, enter the locker room to get changed – everything is normal…until you realize you stumbled into the women’s locker room and you are a guy???  Welcome to my world today!  Yes, I am a guy – a Dad no less – and thrilled and nervous to be blogging amongst such great Mom bloggers.

My Pledge To You – I Will Try Not To Screw Things Up

PTPA is such a great community – terrific information and wonderful members and bloggers – that I have made it my stated goal not to destroy everything.   Nothing like setting the bar low – I find it much harder (yet not impossible) to fail that way.  Just in case, someone might want to jot a note down, “Dan joins 5/1/12” that way if everything falls apart from this day forward we will have a clear record of who is to blame.  Maybe we can make T-shirts – “Dan Did It!

A Little About Me

Due to the stresses of being a parent, I have forgotten most of my past.  My limited memory capacity is now used to try to remember to pick the kids up, or on hard days, to just try to remember how many kids I have.  I am feeling lucid at the moment, so let me give you some quick info…

I have two incredible boys – ages 10 and 8.  I really would have no idea how I ended up with such wonderful kids, but then I look at my wife and it all becomes clear.  I am a native New Yorker who moved to Northampton, MA and then decided the bagels and pizza here were just not up to par.  We now split time between both NYC and Northampton.  It’s a nice mix – in Northamtpon we see bears in the backyard and in NYC we see roaches the size of bears in the apartment.

I Do Many Things, But Being A Dad Ties Everything Together

I have worked in the online marketing world for way too long.  I had a natural products business that I sold because I wanted to find a way to spend more time with the kids.  I quickly realized that I was interested in basically everything – food, sports, gadgets, travel, toys, etc – but I looked at everything through a Dad lens now.   I no longer cared about the  resolution of a HDTV, I just wanted to know if it could survive being shot with Nerf bullets.

Long story, medium long… I decided to create Dad Does – The Place Where Dads Do Things and Review Things (of course Moms are welcome too!).  Over on the site we do a little bit of everything – product reviews, attempted humor pieces, book reviews, articles on parenting and on and on.  It has been an incredible experience and a wonderful way to connect with my kids.

I Will Try to Bring The Dad Point of View to PTPA, Whatever That Is

In truth, I think Moms and Dads are much more similar than the media would make it out to be.  We are all parents and deal with many of the same issues.  As a Dad my heart melts when my son does something incredibly sweet.  Of course, when my kids start throwing tantrums for no reason,  I pretend they are not my kids.  I assume this is generally true for Moms as well?

Seriously, I will try to bring a little of the Dad’s point of view to this blog, but mostly I look forward to learning and interacting with so many great bloggers and readers here at PTPA!

Yes, I Do Have Countless Social Media Thing-a-ma-jigs

Of course I will be blogging right here, but if that is not enough for you, you can follow me on Twitter (@DanDadDoes), check out our Facebook Page, watch me embarrass myself on our YouTube Channel and see strange things I put up on Pinterest.  Please, Moms and Dads – feel free to stop by the Dad Does blog and say hello.

Now I will try to publish this without crashing the internet…

Dan! Already enjoying your first post. Welcome to the panel and I look forward to reading things from “the other side”.
And yes, where can I get a “Dan did it!” shirt?

Dan, welcome aboard, dude! Ahhh, how great is it to use the word ‘dude’ in the context of PTPA. Not sure if you know, until now I may have been the only other dude in the PTPA community. Glad to have you join our truly amazing group of writers, and totally pumped that a dad’s voice is being brought into the fold. I too have boys – younger than yours -so hoping that perhaps I can learn from your experiences..and if I mess up, I can always tell my wife, “Hey, Dan told me to do it”…

Thanks all for the comments – really looking forward to being part of this community.

Man, I knew I should have trademarked “Dan Did It” before posting it! I am now demanding a nickle every time that phrase is used.

Zeev – awesome, I thought I saw another guy’s face in the profiles. Hmm, you have been here a while and haven’t screwed anything up…maybe there is hope for me. Sure, you can learn from me – I believe in being an Anti Role Model, just do the opposite of what I say and your kids will be great :)

Okay, I have been here about 30 seconds and already I need to start complaining about guy discrimination! Why in the comments above do those lovely ladies have awesome photos next to their comments and Zeev and I just have some pattern test? Is it because we are guys??? Although, I have to say I think I like my pattern more than my pic…wonder if I can get that on my license?

I am a Dad and I do things, therefore it was pure fate that I founded the website DadDoes.Com - The Place Where Dads Do Things and Review Things. I spend most of my 36 seconds of free time a day wondering how a guy like me could have ended up with two incredible boys. Actually after about 6 seconds I realize it is all because of my amazing wife, that leaves me 30 seconds to remember I was supposed to pick up the kids 37 seconds ago.
