Ok so the title isn’t as catchy at the song…Video Killed the Radio Star…but I am trying to make a point…
The point being…
RT’ing a Blog post on Twitter or Liking it on Facebook does NOT a comment make…
I made a promise to myself that I would comment on every blog I read…and I have…
AND YES…if I have not commented on your blog, it means I have not read it…My Apologies…I don’t read all that much …it cut’s into my drinking time…
I find myself in disbelief that I can read an amazing post, that I have seen whiz around the Twittersphere and get to the bottom and see not one single comment on the blog…Lot’s of AWESOME…MUST READ…GREAT POSTS…float around the land of the little blue bird…but not one on the authors work itself…this bugs me…
It feels like Blogs only get comments now if they are running a contest or posting something edgy or has shock value…
Don’t get me wrong, the sharing thru space and time on social media is amazing and such a joy to see…as I have said many times before…I am always amazed and grateful when anyone reads anything I have written…But there is something special about getting that notice in your email box…
“You Have a New Comment On…”
Oh..is it nice?? Do they hate it??? do they disagree?? agree??….Oh RATS ASS..it’s Spam AGAIN.
I equate a comment on a blog post as getting a letter in the mail…not a bill or an credit card offer…But an honest to goodness letter..Someone reached out to you…Sure feels special…

I LOVE your personal commitment to comment on every blog post you’ve read. Great idea! I try to, but I should make a more validated effort. I LOVE to get comments – it makes my day. I can only imagine that it’s the same for others too. Thanks for sharing!
Love this post Dee and thank you for saying what we are all thinking! It only takes a moment to leave a comment and that comment means so much. I personally hate the “like” button on FB – I mean don’t get me wrong I use it from time to time but if I like something I want to say it and say why I like it. Take the time and share how you feel. People have spent time and energy pouring their hearts out in their blogs, its not much to ask for a response
I completely agree. We put ourselves out there and it is encouraging to be acknowledged in some way directly on our post. When I log on to my personal blog, I usually just hear the silence and the occasional cricket chirping for lack of comments. Facebook and Twitter are the easy way out. Thanks for posting your blog address Erica – love your blog and just left a comment
I have always loved receiving comments – conversation always adds to the experience!
I have noticed a huge decrease in the amount left (if it’s not a giveaway)on my blog posts and yes, I do blame the convenience the ever famous FB ‘Like’ or Twitter ‘RT’ has brought to the table.
I feel I have a good group of blogging friends that I possibly would never have interacted with had it not been for comments. Sometimes people email, but generally the only way I know they’re there is to comment (and vice versa with me letting others know I’m around).
While I think it can be pointless leaving a comment when you don’t have much to say (even if you like the post), I do think I need to start letting some other bloggers know I’m still there reading.
It’s a simple, quick gesture and it shows the blogger that “Hey, I was here!”
Great post!
Oh, I LOVE this blog post!!! I have been wanting to write a post about this very subject! Thank you for posting this!
I have noticed that it’s so true – people mostly comment on posts if they’re racy, controversial, or if they have to for a giveaway or contest.
I try to leave comments on blogs that I follow. I was talking to other bloggers/tweeters and some have said that they don’t even bother reading other blogs anymore. They just get the gist of things on Twitter or FB and just share/like.
Receiving a true, REAL blog comment is totally just as exciting as getting a REAL letter in the mail – I’m right there with ya! It’s nice to know that people are actually reading what you write!
It’s amazing how many people love to receive comments yet no one seems to be leaving them…It’s such an easy fix..pop in, read, say hi or thank you for sharing…and your done…When I posted this on my old Blog before it was Murdered..it received 92 comments…all saying that we should comment more..lol
So incredibly true! Sometimes it seems like the only way to get comments is to incite people or touch on something really controversial… but then those posts that aren’t controversial but that I agonize over for days (no, make that weeks!) and get thousands of views have NO COMMENTS. C’mon, if you read it, like it, recommend it, COMMENT ON IT! Pretty please?
I love getting comments. I try to leave a comment every time I read a blog post. That way, the person knows I visited. And you know..do unto others…
I often fall victim to the +1, Like, Share… when my toddler is climbing all over me, some days it’s all I can physically do! That being said, I really love it when I am able to comment because I sure love it when I get them – which, sadly, isn’t very often… like Erica (comment above), I usually hear crickets! But, reading this has made me want to commit to commenting more – I won’t promise every time (because that would be an outright lie!), but will do my best. Because, who doesn’t want to make someone feel great?
Great analogy Dee. Receiving comments is like getting mail. It only takes a few seconds, even if it’s just to say you enjoyed it.
