10 Year Old Is NOT The Youngest To Give Birth!

Yesterday, we discovered that a 10 year old girl in Colombia has given birth to a 5 lb little girl.

10 YEARS OLD!!!

Can you believe it?

I mean, she is so young, will she be able to care for this child to her best ability? Is she ready to grow up? So many questions crossed my mind as I realized that this may actually be ‘normal’ in some tribes and in some states….but not my own!

“No 10 year-old anywhere in the world should be having a baby,” Lewis Wall, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Washington UniversitySchool of Medicine in St. Louis, told LiveScience.

Couldn’t agree with this statement more! Shocked with this revelation, I decided to research this topic. After some research I found that this young girl is in fact NOT the youngest to give birth! Turns out the youngest girl to give birth ever was actually 5 years old!!

Her name was Lina Medina, a Peruvian girl from the Andean village of Ticrapo… Lina’s parents initially thought their daughter had a large abdominal tumor… but Lina was eventually transferred to a hospital in Lima, where she delivered a six-pound baby boy by Cesarean section on 14 May 1939. Lina’s father was temporarily jailed on suspicion of incest, but he was released for a lack of evidence and authorities were never ableto determine who fathered Lina’s child.
