In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, you have probably heard about Pinterest if NOT well hopefully I can provide some insights about the social network and if you have perhaps you can get some new creative ways to use it.
What is Pinterest?
So in a nut shell Pinterest (which is a pretty new by the way), is a social networking site that allows you to create online image collages, kind of like a vision boards but in a digital format. Just imagine a huge vision board where you can pin images, not only can you create your own little section of this huge board but you can re-use from others selections.
The big difference with Pinterest and other social networks like Facebook & Twitter is that you can share the many beautiful things you enjoy, and they don’t end up slipping into the dark abyss at the bottom of our feeds and profiles. Pinterest allows users to tell their audience what they love and not just for today.
Once you have received your invite you log on fill out your profile you can get started…it’s easy as can be!
Start (#1) by creating your own boards just name them using different categories from your interests, you can come back to them whenever you need or want to.
If you see something you like you “pin it” (#2) to one of your boards, these images can be pulled from the web (via a URL) or uploaded from your computer. It’s fun. It’s relaxing. It’s addictive really!
What can you use Pinterest for?

Motivation: if you are familiar with the concept of “vision boards” you can definitely see how this platform can be such a powerful tool for inspiration for yourself and others.
Collection: “pin” your work, whether it is cake decorating, jewelry making, photography or even short story writer. No limits to how you can use it, just have fun with it!
Advice: whether you are looking for a variation of a recipe, a wall color for your kid’s room or the ending to your short story, feedback is greatly shared amongst “pinners”.
Participating in your Pinterest community
Like many other social network sites, the way to get more from your community is to engage. You can do this by “liking” pins, commenting or “re-pinning” the more you put into it the more engagement you will get in return whether it’s for personal of business use.
How to Get Pinterest
At this time Pinterest is by invite-only, if you are excited to get Pinning you can request an invite from Pinterest. Or, if you know a trendy, ahead-of-the-game Pinner, that person can send an invite.
Happy Pinning.

I love Pintrest! Had a fun time trying to figure out how to pronounce it – for a while I was calling it PINEtrest. It’s now being called PINtrest, don’t worry! Just please don’t tell me I’m wrong again lol! I definitely recommend this site for women – it’s a great place to play!
There are so many wonderful boards on Pinterest. Even if you don’t want to spend time making your own boards, it’s well worth just hanging out looking at everyone else’s! Great recipes, decorating ideas, even sayings and activities. We actually used it this year with our teens as their Christmas wish lists. They got to pin the things they wanted. I never had to worry about carrying a list around, and when family asked what to buy them, I just sent them to their boards. Gotta love technology!
I am a BIG believer in vision boards. So you can imagine how over the moon I was when I got my invite to Pinterest. It’s like the never ending vision board & highly addictive! The recipes alone could take up my entire day. Then you start looking at crafts, kids stuff, home decorating ideas, fashion… Whew! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. If you haven’t tried it yet, do. Just be warned, it’s not only addictive but motivating also. Happy Pinning!
