The Family Hike

You make the announcement on a sunny Sunday morning, “Let’s go for a family hike!”  The support pours in immediately, ‘do we have to’, ‘it’s cold out there’, ‘how long will we be gone?’  Kids!

Thankfully I get to play my Mom card and today I have decided we are going on a Family Hike so that is what we shall do!  Coats, mitts, boots, snow pants on and the whole family is in the car for the 5 minute drive to the trails.  I know they will love this.  ‘How long is the drive?’, ‘where are we going?’,  ‘why do we have to do this?’  They are really looking forward to this!

Funny thing is, they have a blast.  The day is gorgeous and once again, Mom is right.  A Family Hike is just what we all needed.  The trail was a new one for us and the kids loved exploring.  We found ice on the path into the trails, a bridge across a small creak, boulders to climb, a ladder to get up a huge embankment, a log to sit on and sunlight bouncing off the snow at the top of our climb.  The kids collected sticks, threw makeshift snowballs, chased each other, chased us, laughed, climbed, slid and laughed.

Sometimes, you need to nudge everyone out of the house to have a fabulous family day. I say Mom know best, get outside and have some fun.

Does your family need some coaxing?

Nothing better than a family hike – 1 of our favorite ways to spend the day! Though I will admit on those really cold days sometimes you just want to stay in your PJ’s but once you are out there fun is had by all! We always have hot chocolate in the thermos ready as a treat to warm us all up :)

As a working at home mom of 3 young girls, I attended a meeting to learn about Twitter and see what my daughters would be a part of. The result? Within 6 months I had changed careers and become the social media Mom for the company my husband started in 2005, Life Science Nutritionals. We make the best tasting all natural IronKids Multi, Omega, Calcium, Vitamin D and Fibre Gummy vitamins for children & in 2011 launched Adult Essential Gummy vitamins for Adults! When not on Twitter and Facebook, I blog about Raising Healthy Kids, staying active as a family . . . and still eating the occasional brownie!!
