3. Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Fun!

You can’t have a complete list of Halloween ideas without including pumpkin decorating, so here’s a few of my favorites I thought I’d share. I hope it sparks some inspiration!

The Perfect Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Techniques to try:

-        Shave off parts of the pumpkin’s skin for areas you want to appear lighter

-        Punch holes in the sides for a sweet lantern look

-        Place multiple pumpkins together for a comedic look

-        Use marker, pipe cleaners, cotton balls and googley eyes as decoration instead of carving. The kids love this!

-        Incorporate the stem, odd-looking “defects” and even the pumpkin “guts”. Why not?

4. Kids Halloween Party Fun

Having a party with some family and friends? Here’s some ideas on how the kids can have some fun, too!

-        Have the kids decorate invitations. Take a piece of orange, construction paper, fold it in half and cut out the shape of a pumpkin (making sure that a part of the folded section is left intact so the card can open). Now have the kids draw on some silly pumpkin faces!

-        Find some fun and easy games like Pin the Wart on the Witch or Pin the Spider on the Web, or make a Skeleton Scavenger Hunt!

-        Make your own paper plate masks! Supply must-haves: glitter glue, pipe cleaner, kid-safe scissors, construction paper, washable markers, pom-poms, glue, Popsicle sticks.

5. Easy Pumpkin Lanterns

The kids will love helping you make these lanterns! Once they’re made you’ll have them for every Halloween! Start collecting your glass food jars now instead of recycling – reuse!

Step 1: Find some glass food jars and wash off the labels.

Step 2: Grab some colorful tissue paper, black construction paper, scissors, glue, a paint brush, a black marker and a string of lights (and any other decorations you’d like to personalize these with).

Step 3: Paint the jar in a thin layer of glue then paste the tissue paper on top. Don’t worry too much about smoothness, sometimes crinkles add character! Allow to dry.

Step 4: While you’re waiting for the glue to dry, draw some eyes, noses and mouths onto your construction paper and cut them out. Glue onto your lanterns once they’re dry then add the lights!
