While I was far away from my REAL valentines….I was certainly feeling the love in NYC at the Toy Fair!
From the minute we walked in the door, we were taken back to our childhood and with eyes wide open, we dove into the difficult task of finding new PTPA Nominees for our upcoming Toy Campaign.
Not only did we play, get great free stuff for our kids, and meet amazing entrepreneurs; we also got to search for toys that we think that our testers will deem the new PTPA Winners of 2011!
Here is a list of what toys we would LOVE to test this year!
Top 5 Toys from Day 1
1. ‘Talk Point’ and ‘Talk Board’ from Learning Resources. These multipurpose tools for communication really blew us away. With the small ‘Talk Point’, you can record a message to your child and send it in their school bag “Good Luck on your Math Test” or “Don’t forget to eat your carrots” would not only be fun for the kids to hear, I know mom’s would prefer this over a note that might be overlooked!
The similar ‘Talk Board’ is a white board that can be recorded. I see this is a fabulous tool for my Zack to encourage his speech and communication. I could draw a cow and record “moo”- encouraging recognition between sounds and images. The Special Needs community would love these items, as would teachers and parents!
2. LEGO has come out with LEGO Sort n Store that will be any Type-A mom’s dream come true! They are adorable with different facial expressions. The kids will actually WANT to clean up their toys in this funny minifigure head that sorts it when you shake!
3. We loved seeing previous winners like International Playthings who not only served up Hebrew National hot dogs, but also showed off their latest toys like the zanzoon Animap interactive talking map and Wild Science Glamology (the girl equivalant to the PTPA winner Bath Bomb).
4. ‘Happy Napper’ had tweeted for us to come visit their booth…and they did not disappoint! These adorable play
pillows are perfect for overnighters and travelling. Turned one way, they are a cuddly friend, then you can turn it inside out, and zip up your cozy animal in their own home (equiped with a working doorbell to wake up your animal)! Not only is this a fabulous idea for both boys and girls, a portion of all proceeds go to The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation plus they donate their Happy Nappers to kids in the hospital. One more reason we think they are nominated!
5. Kathryn’s all-time favourite item we saw was not really a toy, but a pet for your kids! Wild Creations EcoAquariums had us mesmorized for half and hour! The Classic EcoAquarium is so low maintenance, kids can truly be empowered to feed them only twice a week and adorable! The 4 by 4 inch tank contains 2 African Dwarf frogs (totally cleaner than the pond frogs we kept for 3 weeks), Lucky Bamboo Plant, Decorative rock, Living Gravel (that absorbs the yucky stuff that makes the water dirty), care guide and Colored Gravel. You only need to clean this aquarium once every 3 months and the water stays clean until then! I’ve had REAL pond frogs…I will definitely do this next time my kids ask us for a pet!
Off to start Day 2 and meet some fab bloggers and tweeps we’ve been dying to meet! I’m excited to see Hasbro, Fisher Price, Leapfrog, VTech and Mattel!!!
More of our newest nominees coming tomorrow!
Which of these would YOU love to test and why???

I would love to test #2 and #3. Both my son and daughter would love these.
I would love to test the Lego Sort and Store. Sounds wonderful and fun to get the legos out of the floor…. LOL
I would love to test the Wild Creations EcoAquariums, it just looks so fun and low maintance, I have two little boys that love animals but we are not allowed to have pets at the duplex we live in, and this would be perfect for them
I would love to test #2 – I’m curious about this! I’m definitely not a type A, but my son loves to sort things and line things up and I’m sure he would love that! Plus he loves lego…
I also think testing #5 would be awesome! Having experienced previous aquariums, this sounds like a dream… and what a great way to gently introduce a child to having a pet.
Thanks!
Wow I love the ideas of number 4 and 5, they sound so neat and we would love to test them!
Would love to test the lego head. Saw this at toys r us at Xmas time but wasn’t sure it would hold enough lego. Didn’t know it sorted! We bought two of the lego storage towers for my twin boy lego towers, this would be a great product to try.
we would love to try #2 #4 and #5. We are most interested in number 4 as my daughter seen one on t.v. an has been asking for one
Oh we love the look of the Happy Nappers! We would love to get the chance to review them.
I would love to test the ‘Talk Point’ and ‘Talk Board’ from Learning Resources and the Wild Creations EcoAquariums.
We’d loved to test the Legos and Happy Napper (my daughter loves anything with ladybugs).
Thank you!
I have a daughter that is going to be 3 in a few months and another that is 15 months. I would love to test any of them… I think it would be fun and exciting.
Oh my goodness. Tired brain syndrome. I meant to say I love the Lego heads too. My youngest has tons of Legos and this could be a great organizational tool for him.
So. Many. Legos. For real. About time something came out to help us sort those legos! I LOVE IT!!!!
Plus Minifigs are made of the win.
#1 would also be interesting for my 18month old with a speech delay. I love the idea of the animal sounds.
Oh wow, great products. Touch choice, I would like #1 because I love leaving my kids notes when they go places so leaving a voice message would be so neat. #2 because my son has lots of legos #3 the wild science Glamology for my daughter and #5 both my kids would love, we don’t have any pets so they would think this was cool.
Awww I would also love to test the Happy Nappers, like I said my boys love animals and I just read that they are perfect for both boys are girls and they look adorable and fun.
I would LOVE to test the “Happy Napper” and the especially the Wild Creations Eco Aquarium!!!! I have a three year old daughter who loves frogs and would absolutely freak out if she got some
What a wonderful low maintenance way for her to enjoy pet frogs! Love this!
We would love to test the Lego sorter and Happy Napper!
I would LOVE to test the lego sorter! My kids are addicted to Lego and have hard time keeping it neat and tidy.
we’d love to test 2,4, and 5. my daughter would love the frog
The Lego Sort and Store is right up my alley…I would be so happy to never step on another Lego when entering my sons room
My 3 y/o daughter would also love to be the mommy of a Happy Napper ! Great finds
I would love to test the Lego. Liam has yet to own Lego and I think this would be the perfect introduction into the Land of Lego
The Happy Napper would be great for my 2 year old who has trouble settling down for her naps.
I would love to test 3 and 5 for my oldest daughter (5 years) who is 100% science oriented. It is hard to find science oriented toys – especially girly ones. I would also love to test 4 and 1 for my 15 month old who is learning to talk and LOVES LOVES LOVES cuddly things.
OMG and the Happy Napper. Liam is so in love with anything cute to sleep with. He’s infatuated with pillows of any sort. This 18 month old would be your best bet to test this. He is the King of Cute and Cuddly : )
WOW, looks like they have some great things at this toy show. I would like to try out any of the products as they all seem fabulous. Keep up the good work!!!!
I would love to test #1 and send a recorded message in with my daughter’s lunch..it would have been PERFECT for a day like yestrday when she wanted me to stay for their valentine’s party at school. At least she would have been able to hear my voice and I’m interested to see how it holds up say in a lunch box, is it ok around liquids, is it semi-washable or is it delicate and sensitive..definitely things that would need to be considered.
I would love to test all of them except for #3 as I have boys. They are all such neat ideas!
I would love to try the Happy Napper!
I would love to try #2 and #4, my son loves the Lego set that we got him AND he loves putting things in and out drawers, boxes, etc. He also LOVES anything soft, so he would love to cuddle with these new toys!!!!
We would love to test the sort & store, happy napper and the Wild Creations EcoAquariums
I would love to test #1 the talk point and talk board… My daughter is only 7 months so we are trying to make her more aware of sounds and words so this would be great for animal noises… Also my husband works shifts and often goes a few days without seeing her so it would be great if she could play a message daddy has recorded specially for her…
Any of them would be fantastic to test, but I have to admit the frog aquarium has me giddy. I always wanted a frog and while pocket frog on the iPad is fun it’s not quite like the real thing. I think it would also keep my daughter from bugging me about a guinea pig for a while.
I’d love to try 2,4,5…however, any would do…I have a 10 month and a 5 year old daughters! :O) Thank you for the opportunity
I would love to test number 4 and 5. I know my daughter would love the happy napper and I think it is awesome that you can zip it up into its own house when they are not using it. I know my daughter would also love the from aquarium. I love that you don’t have to feed them very often or clean the tank very often. That is the kind of pet that I want around.
Would LOVE to test the Happy Napper or the EcoAquariums. I have a toddler girl (2y4m) who LOVES stuffed animals and cozies to play with and sleep with; and she also is in love with anything from the fish aisle at the pet store. My hubby and I have been considering buying her a couple of fish or frogs…
I would love to test the Lego sorter – my 3 yr old son doesn’t like to put his toys away. I’d also like the happy napper for both my kids. I think they are cute and adorable!
We would love to try number 5 the frog aquarium. My son would be super excited. we would alos love the happy napper. I would be interested in checking out Number 3. Thank you for this opportunity.
We would LOVE to test the EcoAquarium – we visited a friend yesterday who had an aquarium and he couldn’t stop staring at it! He was fascinated- this would be perfect!! The Lego sort and store would also be nice for my sanity!
May I try the LEGO Sort n Store and/or the EcoAquarium. Please??
I have all my old lego’s in a broken rubbermaid bin and its getting broken down worse from dumping out the legos. I clean up plastic bin pieces probably more than the lego’s. Then again I end up playing with the lego’s again myself!
The Aquarium would be great with a little night-light too! I always loved having Guppies before but hated cleaning the tanks and filters! Never had frogs. Great idea!
I would love to test numbers 4 and 5. I have kids ages 5,2,and 2 months. My five year old and two old both have the “pillow pets” and will not sleep with out them. The Happy Napper seems right up thier alley. Number five seems like a wonderful learning experience for my five year old. If I like it well enough I would love to take it into my childs classroom and see how a number of children ages 3-5 react with frogs. I would give honest feedback as soon as possible and would be honored if you choose me to help. Thank you for your time.
would love to test #1, #3, or #4…the happy napper is something my kids have been wanting, but i am reluctant to buy, would love to try it to see if it would be worth it for my kids. my daughter would love to do glamology, she loves to use kits that make items she can really use. i love the idea of the talk point and talk board. with 8 kids, it would be great to make one feel special with my actual voice and i could alternate between kids…priceless!! we have a set of the frogs and my kids love them. great easy pets!
can’t wait to see what you pick today at the toy fair!
Would LOVE to test #2,3,4 or 5!!
#2 would be perfect for my 2 Lego loving daughters!!
#3 not sure if the map would be up for testing but I love teaching my girls all about the world and looking a different countries. They even have a three penpals around the world.
#4 I have been looking for something like this for our upcoming car/hotel trips. This one looks PERFECT for that!!
#5 My girls have been asking about getting a fishtank (we did have one). This one looks perfect for them!! My youngest loves frogs thinks they are the best. And my older daughter does different eco projects at school. This would be a cool thing to share with her class!!
Thanks!! Everything looks really cool!!
MY Son just saw the Happy Napper on TV and is Begging me to get it! I would love to test the #4 Happy Napper and
#2 Lego Sort & Store- Lil man is just getting into Legos…
Have fun with day @ at the Toy Fair!
Would LOVE to test the Happy Napper for my 4 year old. She sees it on tv daily and wants one. They look adorable!!!
I love 4 and 5! I have 4 little girls and the happy napper would be a hit with them! The EcoAquarium would be awesome as well they have been wanting an aquarium or pet frog but we never have gotten one due to upkeep, this one sounds like it would be great!

I would love to try the Happy Napper and Wild Creations EcoAquariums. We are big travellers and something I don’t know which toys I should bring. The Happy Napper looks great to have two different ways to play with. Also, the aquarium would be great, because you don’t have to feed them each day. That means, I could do small trips without thinking at the aquarium.
All of these items are so cute. I would love to test either 2 or 4. Anything that would make my kids want to clean up after themselves would be a welcome treat. And the pillow is just adorable.
I would love to try out the Lego Sort n Store, Happy Napper or the Wild Creations EcoAquariums. All the products look great.
Is it terrible that we have a use for each and every one of these fantastic toys?
1.) I’ve already thought about three different games we can use the talk points in as homeschool helpers! That would be a blast!
2.) Lego sorter… Ugh! In the same sentence with 2 1/2 year old boy (youngest of three). Need I say more? My life vs. life transformed by children – the ONLY thing that grates on me is the fact that I’ve always got sore feet from stepping on the darned Legos! AND you need to SHAKE them to get them to be organized… oh.. he’d have a BALL with that!
3.) I’ve got two girls who think it’s their mission to figure out NOW what they want to be when they grow up… it’s either a fashion designer or a scientist – they’re constantly doing eachother’s “makeup” yet we just bought them a microscope – it’s like watching a gameshow to see which one they’ll choose! They’d just be in heaven over this one!
4.) My middle girl has been ooogling over the pillow pets as of late… what a great improvement this seems over those! A working doorbell? Oh yeah, she’s all in!
5.) For some reason, the kids need a pet. Mom has her dog, and Dad has his – but who knew it wasn’t the same thing? Each year we study frogs in a different way. Why? Ask their cirrciulum makers – I’ve not a clue, SOMEONE over there has a thing for frogs – it would be great to have them right up close!
We would ove to test #1 because my son is in kindergarten and has a crazy bus schedule and keeps forgetting from day to day if he has to ride it home so I would put a message for him each day telling him what he is to do after school.
Also #2 I have a two year lod that loves legos of any kind. I really think if she likes the plain ones she will definately like these.
#4 would be enjoyed by both my kids. My son just loves animals and stuffed animals. He can’t get enough and my daughter won’t go to sleep without her pillow pets.
#5 My son would do anything for this item. I showed it to him. He just loves having pets. We lost our dog of 15 years and mom and dad are not ready for a new one so getting these little critters really helps him cope with our loss. My daughter would love to have one of these as well.
I’d love to try the talk point and talk board with my young daughter. She’s experiencing some separation anxiety and I would love to be able to record messages to her, for times when I can’t be physically there! Have they tried it in young age groups yet? I’d love to be one of the first!
I would LOVE to test the Talk Board! Would be great for teaching my preschoolers letter-sound recognition.
I would LOVE to test the Wild Creations EcoAquariums! My 18 month old son is totally mesmerized by the fish aquariums at Wal-Mart!
I’d love to test #2, 4 and 5. Sounds really interesting! My daughter would love those!
I would love to test the Lego Sort n Store, the Happy Napper and the Wild Creations EcoAquariums. My son and daughter would love these.
I would love to test 1, 2, 4 and 5. I have 2 girls ages 2 and 5. They would love these!
I think my 18 month old daughter would be entranced by the Wild Creations EcoAquarium. Recently at a playdate she saw a friend’s pet frog and was just mesmerized. I would like to see if they are really as low maintenance as advertised!
I am also interested in testing the Happy Napper.
The happy napper looks awesome!! I saw the lego sorter @ the store and its on our wish list. Both seem like excellent products! Great!!
I would love to test out #3 and #5!
I have 3 girls and a boy… They love Animals and i think the little aqaurium would be just perfect for them! And My girls would love the Glamology as they are total Girly Girls!!!
Oh Typo… I have 2 girls and 1 boy.. lol sorry.
i would love to try the happy napper for my 17 mths old girl , & the lego sorter, & the glamology for my 8 & 11 year old girls would love that !!! so excited to see if we get picked !!
wow my daughters would love to try out the aqaurium , looks soo cool !
I would love to see and try the Lego sort ‘n’ store! My 4-yr-old son is just starting to accumulate Legos. I’m already finding that I need to find some good method for storing them.
I would love to test Wild Creations EcoAquariums, my daughter would absolutely love this.
Wow .. I’d love to test the LEGO sort and store my boys would love that. Enjoy your fun trip Heather.
The recorder or the lego sorter
The recorder might be fun to leave with baby sitter, or for the cousins to send messages to each other. And I have a nephew with a HUGE Lego collection that a sorter would be fun to try to control!
i would love to test the wild creations ecoaquariums.

I love to test the lego sorter! We have so much lego and anything that will organize and encourage cleaning up is alright by me
love to test all. i have a 3 year old and 15 month old. I actually live in New York but not the city. Wish I did cause this Toy fair/convention looks like it has some awesome ideas………………..
We actually have the Wild Creations EcoAquariums! My Daughter loves it and it is SUPER low maintenance! I would love to try ‘Talk Point’ and ‘Talk Board’ from Learning Resources or the Happy Napper.I think my daughter would love the Happy Napper! So cute!
I think my son would love the happy napper, what a cute idea!
I would love to test the Lego Sort N Store and the Happy Napper-they would both appeal to my children and ok, maybe even me *grin*
It would be awesome to try 2, 4, and 5
I would love to try the Talk Board and the Happy Napper! My 3 1/2 year old twin girls would love the pillow animal that can “sleep” in its own house! And I love the idea of the Talk Board as a teaching/learning tool, especially for letter sounds and memory words. Awesome idea! I’m kind of curious about the frogs. I’ve actually seen these at the Brookstone store at the mall for the last year or so, and my kids go nuts every time they see the little frogs inside the self-contained aquariums. I really like the low-maintenance aspect of this pet. Sure beats a bunny!
I would love to test:
1. Talk point- this would be great to have my kindergarten son and I can do reminders.
2.The lego sorter & store- my household is need of this product. I have stepping on them.
4. Happy Naper- my youngest woud love this like a pet.(for a boy)
5. oh My Gosh, wild creations ecoaquariums this way up my ally. Both boys 5 & 3. I can teach them how to take care of something. The maintenance seems to be easy. I love the size of the aquarium. Perfect.
The talk point sounds super cool…not only could you use it to send sweet messages to your little one at school but how about them leaving a message for mom or dad in their lunch too…say on a special day like their birthday or mothers/fathers day!
The lego sorter also sounds really great…a way to keep all those little pieces stored away and sorted too…awesome!
I would love to test the ‘Talk Point’ and ‘Talk Board’. My toddler loves interactive learning and technology. I can think of so many creative ways to put this to use. I would also love to try the lego sort and store (picking up toys is always an issue at our house) and the Happy Napper looks like a fun way to try naptime for my 2.5 year old girl!
Thanks,
I wonder how the Lego would go over for a child with Aspergers – my daughter who is ten is being tested next Monday actually for Aspergers and one of her major issues is that she can not at all read facial expression – thos faces are very well expressive – I wonder how someone like her would see them – I would love to know. I fy ou are ever testing them, I would love to test them on her!
Both my kids would go wild for the Aquarium, they are both animal nuts! LOL very cool idea – and dwarf frogs rock
#1 looks really fun.. And my son (and me
) would love the Lego Sort n Store!!
My daughter would love to test out the Happy Napper, anything that is pink and that she can cuddle with is fun for her. Also I’d love for her to try out the LEGO Sort n Store. Thanks!!
I would love to test the Wild Creations EcoAquarium because my daughter is totally in awe of all small creatures. She would prefer to watch a frog for an hour then just about anything else I can think of.
my daughters would love to test the happy napper – they love putting toys to bed (literally tucked under the blanket) then waking them up. what a great idea!
I would love to test ‘Talk Point’ and ‘Talk Board, LEGO Sort n Store, Happy Napper’, and most of all, the Wild Creations EcoAquariums!! My sons would LOVE that aquarium!!
