Its the Christmas holidays and everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends – except me! My daughter and her family are on vacation in Florida, visiting with Zaida, enjoying the sunshine and Disneyworld. I miss them terribly – its hard for me and admittedly, its lonely – but technology has made it a lot easier!
The kids drove to Florida, and my daughter texted and emailed me all the way down – I love my Blackberry. I always worry about what the weather will be like on the drive (I’m a Jewish Mother – that’s what I do) so Kathryn kept my mind at ease by letting me know the drive was a breeze. Would she tell me if it wasn’t??? Probably not.
They arrived in great time (Eren, were you speeding? Kath were you speeding?) and Zaida Elliot had a fabulous condo for them to stay in while in Orlando. He is a wonderful, generous man and I am so thankful that he loves my kids and grandkids as much as I do. Thanks El!
In addition to texting and email, there’s Skype – the best invention ever. They call me and with my video camera on in my computer I can see them and talk to them. I got to watch Dylan eating his famous ketchup on a bun sandwich. He chewed right into the camera – I could pinch that gorgeous face and those beautiful dimples. Kailey called me today on my cell phone and told me all about seeiing the Tangled stars at Disney. Dylan said her hair was soooooooooooooo long – almost as long as his, and she brushes and brushes it. Could they be anymore adorable? Its so delightful to hear their voices, no matter where they are in the world it brings a smile to my face and overwhelming love to my heart.
What are you doing this holiday season? Is your family away on vacation and you’re stuck at home? Try communicating with them in one of the new technologically-advanced ways. It relieves the loneliness, and allows you to share in their happiness and joy vicariously either by cell phone, or email, or texting, or Skype.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy and safe holiday season. Talk to you in the new year!
