Fall has come quickly where I live.  Just over a week ago I was cooling off in the ocean with the kids and today I am wearing a sweater…fall has arrived!  You won’t hear me complain though because I just love the fall.  The foliage.  The crispness in the air.  The apple picking.  Everything…even the raking!

Over the weekend my husband and I took the kiddos to our favorite apple orchard and picked some nice, fresh apples…yum!  We have been baking up a storm ever since and I thought I would share my favorite apple recipe with you all….a nice, easy apple crisp that is great to make with the kids.  Enjoy and Happy fall!

Mom’s Apple Crisp

6 C. apples (peeled and sliced)                                                                        

1/4 C. Water                                                                                                          

1/2 C. Sugar                                                                                                            

1/2 C. Dark Brown Sugar                                           

1/2 tsp Nutmeg

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 C. Flour

1/2 C. Butter                                           

Put prepared apples in shallow, 2 QT casserole dish and add water.  In a seperate bowl, combine sugars, nutmeg, salt, cinnamon and flour.  Cut in butter and knead with hands (kids love this part) until mixture is crumbly.  Spoon evenly over apples.  Cover and bake in pre-heated (350 degrees) oven for 30 minutes.  Uncover and cook an additional 30 minutes or until bubbly.  Serve with vanilla ice cream to welcome the fall!
