digitsaver ~ PTPA Award Winner

logo_newest digitsaver ~ PTPA Award Winner Readers, I have a bit of a horror story to share with you. First, though, let me tell you briefly about this company. Digitsaver was created by mom of 2, Jeri Homa Keating. Like most products created by moms, the Digitsaver was born out of a need to make things run more smoothly in the household. Jeri saw a problem (doors that closed much too fast and hard and put little fingers in serious danger) and created her own solution.

Do you have a way to protect your doors from pinching little fingers? When I only had 1 child, it wasn’t as much of a concern until I learned of a very serious incident that happened with my good friend’s little guy when he was almost 2 years old.

Her little guy was playing with an older cousin and, as boys do, they were playing/fighting and the older child slammed the bedroom door. Unfortunately, the younger child’s wee finger happened to be still in the doorway. What happened next is just sickening. This little guy had the tip of his finger literally chopped off by the door. He was rushed to the hospital (mom remembered to bring the finger tip with her) and a surgeon at the hospital reattached the fingertip, fusing together the nerves in the process, and told this boy’s mother that it was all out of his hands at that point. They would have to wait and see within 4-6 weeks if the finger, once it was unwrapped from the huge amount of gauze making him like like he was holding one of those foam fingers we take to football games (”We’re Number One!), would be pink and living or if it would be black and hence, dead tissue.

The happy ending to this story is that the tissue did live and this little guy is now almost 5 years old and his finger is fine, except for a small scar. He still remembers his accident, though. After that, I remembered this story every time we had a playdate at our house with other children and once my second child was mobile, I became completely paranoid about one sibling closing the door on the other’s hands. My make-shift solution was a towel hung on the doors of the bedrooms, that way the door couldn’t close completely. Not very visually appealing but it did the job somewhat….until someone took down the towel and didn’t replace it.

Digitsavers are adorable little plush animals with a round plush circle on one side and an elastic on the other. It attaches in seconds to a doorway making the door impossible to close. It’s not just for the prevention of slamming doors, it also keeps little ones from closing themselves in a room, the wind blowing doors shut, etc.

Jeri was so kind and sent me 2 Digitsavers to review, so I could put them on both my kid’s doors. We picked the bear like the one featured here and a lilac dog for my daughter’s room.

They take 2 seconds to put on and stay put, especially when I explained to my 4 year old the dangers of a slamming door. My son doesn’t mind it on the door at all and I now have peace of mind that my 16 month old won’t close herself in a room while I’m in the kitchen (it’s happened before).
